Watched this BBC documentary on rogue/freak waves a few years ago. One Captain talked about how, when his large vessel started down into the trough of the approaching wave, furniture was rolling downhill. Egad!

Makes me want to untie my 34AT and go out wave hunting.
It sure would make for a very exciting day and an obvious conclusion.

Windy was calling for 35' waves.

I know because my boat was hunkered down for the week in Crescent City on its way north. The wind ripped out several snaps on the bimini but the biggest issue for me was that it set the crew back by 6 day$

Although I have never experienced or even seen such a "rogue" wave I know they are out there. The Great lakes experiences a similar phenomenon called the "Three Sisters" it is what is thought to have sunk the Edmund Fitzgerald.

It is difficult to plan a path of retreat to a safe anchorage or marina.
