Deadliest Catch - huge wave

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

On Feb. 12, while the search was still ongoing, Capt. Johnathan Hillstrand of the Time Bandit told Seattle’s KOMO News, “I just got home, and it was like the most evil, cold season. We’ve been lucky the last couple years, but this is heavy freezing spray and -40 and a terrible season.” He added, “We took on 200 tons of ice and it took around 28 hours to get the ice off the boat. … We were in trouble.”

It must have been brutal up there for freezing spray. Even here in Kitimat on BC's north coast we had week after week of storm force winds and freezing spray warnings during three extended cold snaps this winter. Vancouver got our snow, and California is still getting Vancouver's rain. Wouldn't take a rogue wave to flip a boat with 200 tons of ice on its topsides.

Condolences to the families of all concerned.
