The dipstick tubes on my Cummins engines have a copper tube extending from the side of them. Is this for oil removal via the pump?

Post a pic that will help along with engine model. The best answer will be from boatdiesel.com or check with sbmar.com and talk to Tony.

Mine engine has a hand pump mounted on the Stbd side of the engine it draws up thrugh a tube from a fitting at the bottom of the crankcase. The Dipstick on mine is on the port side. Maybe it is switchable, ambidextrous, but I never paid much attention to it. The hand pump works very well, with warm oil, but take quite a it of stroking to get out the +- 13 qts.
I'll take a look at it the next time over.
