Here is a pretty good site for distance planning anywhere from Puget Sound to the Broughtons.

Nicely done and if you click on the far right of each entry you'll see a chart with a plot line drawn in for reference.

I use It as a pre-planner for our trips.

I have a group of satellite image placemats that work wonders too, until I get serious and break out Nobeltec or the IPad. the cruising guides we use suc as Waggoners or Douglas/Hemingway have distance charts too, be we never go in a straight line.

Great site. Use it quite a bit. We have a link to it on our site's pull down menu under "More". My favorite part is that they use 7 knots as their average speed - which is exactly what we do! (That way I don't have to do any troubling math...)

First I would like to thank the folks at NWcruising.net. I found these charts earlier this year.

7 knots was a bit slow for me so I did the conversion to Excel and used both the US and Canadian distances during this years long trip to the Broughtons and back. Very useful on a laptop but I also printed them out and those were even more handy.

The conversion to Excel took a bit of cleaning up, but once done you only have to change a single cell (Knots) to convert all times for your own average speed. Of course that doesn't take currents into account.

I have those cleaned up Excel files if anyone wants them. I don't want to post them here (not sure about copyright, etc) but would be willing to e-mail them if you shoot me an address via PM.

BTW, it turns out that Hiram Chittenden Locks westbound to Hiram Chittenden Locks eastbound is 796 nautical miles via the Broughtons. It took 1012 hours, making my average speed only 0.787 knots.
