Windytv is my favourite weather website for a "big picture" understanding of the weather.

Like almost all forecasts, you still have to apply a bit of local understanding to the predicted wind speed and direction. For example - windytv doesn't factor in how small land masses change wind direction and speed, but still - one of the best.

I believe windytv uses the same wind models that a lot of other sites have been using.. for decades. It does look nice though. Their mobile app is good too.
