Cost for top side wash, wax and buff?

I was planning to get a wax and buff job done on our boat before the season starts.

Heard prices ranging from a couple hundred all the way to 900.

Wondering if anyone can share their experiences.

thanks

*Per, it is going to depend on a number of things.* What is the condition of the gelcoat or paint?* To what standard do you want it done?* Will it ivolve compounding?* Will it be a complete detail job---ie removing metal pieces and canvas?* Metal polishing?* $900.00 for a detailed job is not out of the question.*

Per, yep, it would no be uncommon for a 38fter to get close to 900 bucks. I would highly recommend you ask around your marina for recommendations of people to do it. There are people that do a good job and it is worth it. And there are folks that are hacks and you can't even tell they have done anything. This is usually where "you get what you pay for" applies. Just ask around for satisfied customers and use who they used. I get my boat done for 300 from one person and 400 from another. I will say that the 400 dollar guys is better than the 300 dollar one.....and is occasionally worth it. But most of the time, I use the 300 dollar guy.

It als depends on the type of boat. I had a Prairie 29 that the guy(400 dollar guy) charged me 600 for. Why???...because it has much more fiberglass area than my 30ft Mainship. I guess all I am saying is a 38ft express cruiser would likely cost less than a 38ft trawler.

Thanks John and Don.. both valuable information.
You get what you pay for, but at the same time you dont want to get ripped off.
