Corpus Christi to Port Isabel

I am in the early planning stages of a trip from Clear Lake to Port Isabel. I have no issues from CL to CC as I have done that a few times. I am looking for ideas or for what others have done between Corpus and Port Isabel. I cruise at 7 knots so can't make it one day and don't want to be on the ICW after dark. Any suggestions on anchorages or a marina?

I stayed at a marina in Port Mansfield years ago. Basic place IIRC.
