Planning a trip during the month of July exploring the Chesapeake Bay. Looking for recommendations for places to dock and explore as well as great areas to anchor out. Most importantly, looking for the town/area that has great fireworks and 4th of July celebrations. Please post your recommendations and suggestions.

No exploring or things to see, but the fireworks on the 4th are hard to beat on Stoney Creek. Goes on for hours. Western shore, just a bit south of the Key Bridge.

Some ideas here: http://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s27/chesapeake-summer-2018-a-34901.html

And probably others. Note the book recommendation for gunkholing.

Almost all the towns have fireworks. Usually you can check Proptalk or Spinsheet magazines or Bay Weekly newspaper for schedules of who where when. If you intend to be docked somewhere to watch fireworks, reserve early.
