Catalina photos...

Some photos from our annual Catalina cruise to Avalon. The previous storm sent half of one dinghy dock out to sea and misaligned the mooring balls so that we had to rig out our fenders to prevent bumping our neighbors. There was an art show and a fishing tournament on the week-end so it was a busy time. We paid for four days and got three days free.

Cruise ships go there???

What is there besides the weird wildlife, island (rock) and mooring buoys. Must be some night life ashore.

Catalina Island has cattle, buffalo, and horse ranches in the interior. Avalon has many restaurants and plenty of shopping for the girls. Every week a cruise ship stops at rhe island for a few days disembarking passengers to tour the island while using dynamic positioning instead of anchoring. They used to use the ship's lifeboats for lightering but now use out-of-service Catalina Express boats to bring the people ashore. It is such a favorite stopping off place that the are considering putting in a terminal just for cruise ships. In case you missed it, another shot of the "wildlife:

Yup, nothing there but casino, buffaloes and weirdos. No reason for going there...

I think me would like to see some more "wildlife!" Looks like hunting would be fun.

Brings back some fond memories. Did you get over to Twin Harbors?

We had to move to another ball at Avalon but were wiling to go to Two Harbors rather then take a ball at Descanso. We were at Two Harbors once when a Santa Ana came in and rocked the place. The Sicilian was up all night while I slept through the whole thing. The Harbor Police kept going up and down the mooring balls securing vessels in danger of slipping their mooring lines. In the morning, my neighbor had two shiners from hitting his head while trying to secure his dinghy in the high winds. Cat Harbor is the only all-weather harbor but is a long trek on a trawler.

There is an interesting airstrip on the island's top.

The town is kinda funky. Once there is enough for me unless I enjoyed elbowing wandering tourists.

I'm unaware of any gambling establishments on the island. The LA/Long Beach has some operating casinos, however.

You're the only one who has mentioned gambling or gaming.
