Boat yards in the Baltimore Annapolis area

I have had my boat in three yards in the area and the quality of work is generally good. The rates are all in the $100.00 per hour range which is fine. My problem is the extent to which they lump much of the work together on the bill and inflate the labor hours, sometimes to a ridiculous level and then when you complain they give you a "break" so that you will come back. Any recommendation on yards that are honest on the actual hours and stick by estimates? Any good do-it-yourself yards?

Short of hauling out and blocking, what else are you expecting from a DIY yard? Further you get from the cities, the better the price gets. Prices on the Eastern shore (Delmarva) are significantly better.

In Annapolis, I have always liked Bert Jabins yard. They do no boat work other than haul, pressure wash and block. Then you select whichever independent contractor you want, many of which have offices in the yard, or do it your self. Port Annapolis Marina is similar, but have some internal craftsmen.

Hartge's in Galesville, a bit south is probably cheaper.
