Berries to Elbow Cay

Are there any recommended routes from Great Harbour Cay to Hopetown? We are in a Mainship 390 trawler and we're looking for an inside passage. Its a rolley boat not great for offshore passages.

It looks like there's only 1 route.....East for 45 miles....then NNE for another 45....and there's nothing to get "inside" of. I hope you're not going soon....Maria is going to be messing up that area pretty good. Looks like waves greater than 10 feet for the next few days.

Your choices are to go around the Hole In The Wall and in through Tillo Cut. But that is wide open water all the way.
Otherwise run north to West End. Cross at Memory Rock, then to Great Sale and then on into the Sea of Abaco. First part will be open but you will also very likely have many other boats around.

I did the same run a couple years ago. Went around hole in the wall and came in an inlet south of Hope Town, can't remember the name of the inlet. It was only moderately rough (say 5') so no rage in the inlet, easy peasy.

Would not want to do it with the hurricane swell out there. Inlets will be stood the F up.

It looks like going around West End would be about 3 times the distance. At 8 knots or so, an extra 175 miles is A LOT.....plus that route might give more exposure to Maria's influence NE of Great Abaco.

Thanks guys, planning an April trip and wondered if I was missing something. Suppose I could shoot over to the Grand Lucayan Waterway from Great Harbour Cay and approach the Abacos from that way. Might be more interesting as well.

Check whether the waterway is open and no significant shoaling prior to heading there.
