We're taking a 47 ft Cabo down the coast from BC to San Diego in a few weeks.

We've been watching the wind for a few weeks and it was mostly honking in some spots 30+ knots.....Which we're used to here in Hawaii, but not pleasant even if it's a down wind run.

This week it's been mellowing a lot, hope that trend stays put.

Any input would be appreciated, haven't done that trip before.

Rudy,
Are you day hopping or several long runs? The weather windows have been rather short so far, hoping as we get farther south the weather will improve a bit.

Recently completed San Francisco to San Diego. About 62 hours at 7-8 knots. There are a fair number of accessible harbors on that run. Also south of point conception seas normally are less challenging. I have not run it but I think the Seattle to San Francisco requires longer legs and a number of harbors are risky or even closed in bad conditions. Also expect mostly following seas which can be as much or more problematic than head seas depending on your boat.
Make sure auto pilot is well cared for as that would make for an incredibly tiring journey for hand steering.
As long as you have plenty of time you should be fine. I would expect to allow 2-3 weeks but you could get lucky and cover it in much less if not sitting in a harbor waiting on the weather.

When commercial fishing, north of SF, late summer has more good weather days than July and eariler, sometimes nice going into mid October. The weather cycles from strong NW winds, usually 10-20 knots to SW as a low passes and knocks down the NW swell. Sometimes the ocean will remain (what I call flat) for 7-10 days. South of SF I fished tuna from about August to November. I remember the ocean being mostly flat unless a big storm came thru.
