Aquarius Motor Yacht / moisture

Question, we are looking at a new boat to us, the surveyor had notice moisture on the stern under the swim platform. If we buy the boat how would we resolve this problem and is it a big issue?

No one can answer that question without knowing the year, make, model of boat and exactly where the moisture was located. The surveyor should have explained the issue to you.

Moisture is like "a soft spot" same as in a car or a house or an RV.

The only way to fix it is to open it up, and to keep removing stuff until you get to sound material......

My experience with boats, houses, old cars and RV's is that it's ALWAYS worse than you thought.

So, unless you are Mr Toolguy and know how to do it (which you are probably not, or you wouldn't be here asking the question) or if you have a LARGE check book, you are not going to like the rest of the story.

Is it a cored hull I guess?

The Aquarius has no core in the hull. Moisture Meters do tell lies sometimes and can be confused by high capacitance bottom paints so if high moisture has been indicated by a moisture meter there is a possibility that there is no problem. The measurement should have been taken from inside and outside....... If high on the outside and low on the inside the high readings are likely due to a high capacitance bottom paint.

If high moisture was determined by percussive sounding then there is very likely an issue to be dealt with.

Find out how the high moisture was determined and talk to the surveyor. He should be able to give you an idea of the nature and extent of his findings.
