American Tug 395, hull #12...

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Bruce, will they put a removable shelf above the water maker and water heater for storage? We do not have a WM and in that space we have 2 milk crates with spare filters, etc. and room for the Cummins spare parts suitcase plus more behind the muffler against the hull. From your picture it looks to be the same amount of space as our 34.

Funny, there is so much space on this boat compared to our last boat...
No shelf that I know of but plenty of places to put those things elsewhere.
I'd give up radar before I'd give up my water maker!
I believe the space in the engine room is the same with the extra length in the aft spaces.

That's what we thought too. But when we took the boat up to B.C. last summer, we "needed more room". We had a hookah system in a bag and a dry suit on top of the crates bungied down. I have seen removable racks on other AT's in that area. You will figure it out after some use. Have fun with it.

I am sure it is like any other space we occupy in life. If it is there, it gets used.
If we really need more space we can always trade it in on a larger one!
That is of course, assuming there'd build another boat for me...

Wiring in progress. I love seeing photos of wiring and then trying to figure out exactly what is happening. I sit here (without a schematic) and try to identify components. I have to admit that this boat is more complex than our past boats but I'm working on it...

Nice, that should be very tidy when they're done. Hopefully you will receive a detailed schematic.

May I ask for more details about your water filtration? What kind of filters will you put in these housing?
Also is this all connected with clear pvc reinforced hose with single clamp?
When I bought my boat fist thing I did was to replace all the plumbing with pex tubing. When reaching my berth in hot summer, one of the pvc reinforced hose split at fitting, when I checked I saw that the pvc went smooth with the temperature and with only one clamp on fitting it was just not strong enough. I still have 2 fittings with pvc reinforced hose because I had no choiuce but double clamped them.

The filters you see there are for the watermaker. There is a carbon filter to remove chlorine from water used in flushing the membrane and a coarse and fine filter for seawater that will be run through the membrane.
There is pex tubing in the boats freshwater system after the water pump.

Thank you for the info :)
I want to had filtration on my galley for water coming from tank so my question. Want to add some filtration to remove any chlorine taste and and make it safe enough to cook. Anyway I don't drink any water :D

I would suggest that you contact Kenny and Kathy Walker, they own the 2114 395 American Tug, and would be more than happy to help you with your choices.

I've been in contact with the original owner of that boat but not Kenny and Kathy. Our loss I'm sure...
I have studied their notes that they make available to charter guests and feel like I know the boat though.
Great idea,
Bruce

Here we are sitting in Key West in our Airstream and we get pictures of our boat as it is being built. This is what they refer to as a "good moment"...

Today it's a balmy 26 degrees and snowing in Mt Vernon. Your boat's inside and you're in Florida...seems like good choices here!

Ha! We will attempt to bring some of this balmy 80 degree Keys weather with us as we head that way!

I remember following the American Tug "English Rose" traveling down Lama Passage and Fitzhugh Sound a couple of summers ago. I remember she returned a radar signal like a cargo ship. Evidently she had no radar reflector.

English Rose is apparently a 41/43 American Tug that was the subject of a story in Passagemaker.
The additional 3.5' of length suggests that the 41/43 is slightly larger than the 395 and boy oh boy is that deceptive!
We were aboard a 43 recently and it felt as though it was twice as large as the 395!
I'm sure that size has something to do with the radar signature of that boat...

We are in the construction stage where lots of bits and pieces are being added to the boat. I love this stage of a project, my wife finds it kind of boring...
Here we get to see things that I will never have to see again! At least not too soon...
This is the fridge cabinet where our Vitrifrigo will be installed. They had to make the stairway about an inch narrower to accommodate the unit and of course there will be no microwave!

This is my favorite thread on TF!
She's a beautiful boat!

Why thank you!
We got more pictures last night and I didn't post any here as I was wondering if anyone was even watching!
Since you like them I'll continue.
You can see the countertop getting ready and then being installed.
Ceilings in the forward stateroom are fitted.
Vents in cabinetry and the aft cockpit roof...
Bruce

P.s. You can see the solid 3/8" Sapele being laid down for the cabin sole. I love the look of a solid wood sole. We once had a 32' Able Whistler sailboat that had a trak floor that was made this way and I loved it!!!

Greetings,
Mr. BrB. What d'yer mean if anybody's watching? This is like a group birth without the "naughty bits".

Thanks Bruce!
Even though I have a Nordic Tug,
I'm partial to the American Tugs, especially the 395.
And since I'll most likely never be in a position to have a new boat built, watching one be built is the next best thing.
Keep 'em coming!

Some morning boat porn!
First the electrical distribution panel being wired..
then on to our Sapele planked soles and finally some cabinetry in the master stateroom and "man doors".
I asked what man doors where.
Aparrently man doors are doors a man can walk through!
Only 4 or 5 weeks left!
Bruce

A little more.
Pieces of the cabin sole being finished.
A washer/dryer and my Vitrifrigo fridge!
Things are happening fast now...
