Your generator wiring problem is more than likely not boat specific. So ask away.

Looking for picures or a diagram on the preheat switch and or the generator starting switch. Our current issue is when you go to click either Button it kills the 12v source. We have replaced all fuses and solenoids, still with no luck. The generator was ran dry on fuel once unfortunately and since then it’s been shot

Have you checked the push button fuse on the genset - its red and requires a real heavy 'push' more like a soft hit.
Also there is an on & off switch on the genset that is often toggled off when folks are working down there. Up is typically on but look carefully.

The wire diagram is available at the bayliner site ….. you need to enter the year 1996 and then select 4788 and download the manual.

Westerbeke 12.5 BTDA manual (that was in most of them with AC)

The CHR10 was replaced by the CHA10 and a few Bayliner owners have used the replacement switch since.

If the genset was running fine and it ran out of fuel a typical scenario does happen....
- the genset gets repeatedly 'cranked'
- if you stop cranking and then immediately start again the load goes up huge
- then the breaker on the genset trips
- since this breaker is often overlooked the starting power loop is interrupted
- that 'red' push button breaker is really hard to reset, you have to wollup it
- If in doubt carefully and temporarily bypass that breaker and see if the genset cracks again as a test.

Hope this helps

Another option is to post your question where many 4788 owners will likely see it and respond….

I am curious - did you get it fixed? What was the problem?
