Planning on doing the Great Loop next year and was searching out more cruising guide information. Came across the Great Lakes Cruising Club and was wondering if there were any GLCC members here and what they thought of the club's cruising guides and harbor reports.

I used to be a member.
You will find value only if you anchor the majority of the time.
They have great charts of anchorages and how to get in them. Port data is like any other source. They hold cruising rendezvous' on a regular basis as well but that typically doesn't fit with Looping.

Have no idea what it is today.
Guess there are probably better references like Active Captian, but sure good to hear that the club is alive and well!

GLCC does provide some nice photos, overhead and otherwise, and good detailed write-ups, but the cost for a one trip through may be prohibitive. Active captain does a nice job of the area also, most places with great write ups are crowded and you may want to avoid anyway as there are endless anchorages in the northern lakes. On lake Michigan you have very few anchorage options anyway so any port guide will do. Do not rush through the lakes...you can easily make a gracious exit in late October and see some beautiful color before heading south. It also puts you behind the heavy traffic headed down and makes for a leisurely cruise.
