Ok so I’m shopping for solar equipment. I’ve decided to buy a Victron MPPT Controller. I am curious about what the last letters stand for. One has MC4, one has TR and the other has nothing apart from the Bluetooth sign.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance all
MC4 is a standard solar connection with clip in connector dongles. You can see them at the bottom of the unit.

I would go the MC4 route as the crimper and connectors are cheap and allows you to make easy connections that you can disconnect easily if needed in the future for service.

The last part of the model number indicates the included features usually. I'm not sure what those are on that specific MPPT controller.

Yeah for the most part.

Awesome. Thanks mate.

Matt: We installed one of Victron’s “SmartSolar” MPPT controllers last year that has built in Bluetooth and love it. With the free VictronConnect app many parameters can be viewed and set, such as battery voltage, solar history, load output, flexible battery charge algorithms plus day/night timing and light dimming options.. Victron’s words, not mine. :). Something else to look at maybe.

Hey Larry.
The one I’m looking at comes with a controller that I can mount in my dash and do the same as what you’ve listed. I did message the eBay seller and ask how much to swap that gauge out for the Bluetooth LE dongle so I can use the VictronConnect app instead. Will wait and see.

Do you like the Victron MPPT unit? Any issues?

No issues and I love it. It is installed on a van though but in a cabinet and out of site. The Bluetooth is pretty cool being able to see what’s going on from either the phone or my iPad. The unit has been rock solid.

Matt - 8 photos on your post 4768 look like a fine artist's pencil draying. Everything you do is a piece of art!

Walls done.... just the ceiling left to sand then a hose out and she’ll be ready for top coating with Jotun Mirror Gloss

Argh sanding ceilings suck. 90% done tho. I gave it all a hose down to see any spots I missed. There’s a few bits I’m not happy with now the dust is gone. I touched up a spot with penguard primer and Tomorrow I’ll finish this whole area and the begin to mask up ready for painting.

I also finished up a 316 stainless steel mount for the Furuno Raydome instead of the plywood plate I was going to use. Online they wanted around $800 + postage. This cost me around $20 in material

Congrats - Mate, Matt!! Another beautiful piece of your "art"!!!

Awesome arvo at the boat today. Got the aft cockpit ready. Touched up some spots with fine filler and some sanding then did some masking up of the Downright and speaker holes and the windows. Tomorrow I’ll finish off masking up the windows then I’ll sand the jotafair i put on the fwd deck. For the nonslip.

Sent you a "Thanks" PM. Now will send an actual PM.

Edit: Actual PM came up on my "sent message" folder.

Don't forget you may need to turn your computer upside down to get all folders to open up correctly!! - LOL After all you know... you are in Australia!! LOL X 2

Haha oh you’re so hilarious ... lol

Ok so I replied to you and it’s showing in sent. The ones I sent this afternoon aren’t so I’m assuming they didn’t get sent.

Must be a glitch in the matrix. Thanks for helping brother.

I'll bet a bag of southern peanuts that your SS mounting solution will last as long, if not longer, than that high price item. :thumb:

Pretty awesome afternoon at the boat. I finished off putting the plastic on the windows. Ran out of tape so haven’t quite finished masking it up just yet. Bit late for the Portside window cause it’s got overspray all over it from painting last week. Can’t wait to clean that off ?? ... after that I sanded the jotafair on the fwd deck then jumped up on the roof and started to work on that. The roof is one of the most important bits to get right yet it’s had the least amount of attention because you don’t really see it and the tarps I had on it before were too close and I couldn’t move around. I sanded around the hatches and filleted them with jotafair and that was about it really.

Ahhh "The Roof"... nemesis of many a boat, car, truck and motorhome paint job. Keeping it clean can be a BIG pita too... Tell your roof I said to take it easy on you! LOL

Lol yep and that’s why she’s going to be 95% nonslip kiwigrip coating with a couple of solar panels and a few antennas.

Public holiday over so was back to it today. Continued on with the roof area. I rubbed it back with P80 grit belts on the belt sander then skim coated the joins with jotafair ready for a final sand and wash down tomorrow then I’ll roll on some Penguard HB on Thursday. IMG_0954.jpg
