Hendo's Randall 35 Cray Boat complete rebuild, Perth, Western Australia

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I’ve got a Paragon HF7B-L gearbox with a 2.03:1 ratio and a one piece drive shaft

2-1 is good for the prop clearance.
May not be best for thrust for a heavy boat though.
I wonder what ratio other boats most similar to yours have?
But of course one can use a suitable prop blade area wise and use # of blades and the blade area to load properly.
A gear ratio of 2.5-1 may have been less ideal.

Gave the boat a tub and hung up the last of my tarps and shade-cloth ready for priming and painting on Saturday. Not as perfect as a proper spray booth but 1000 times better than where it was and should be fine.

Good paint "readyment"! That your bug in front. You got that so you can drive under SOLSTICE and check out her bottom after splash while tied to dock?? - LOL

I've done some auto paint on lux autos in way worse conditions. :thumb:

Awesome morning of painting today. So excited to see it moving forward and having a pro come in and begin spraying it. Mike from Exterior Marine Solutions is the master behind the gun. The products we used today were supplied by Boating Hardware and were Jotun Penguard High Build primer in the aft cockpit and transom areas as well as a splash of Jotun Hardtop ultra on the cockpit ceiling, however after it flashed of we have decided that we’ll get a different product for the ceiling so I’ll rub that back during the week.

You da man, Matt. I stand in awe of the practical way you solve problems. Now, moving ever so closer to the finish line we are all excited for you.

Ohh thanks mate. I appreciate the message. I owe a lot to you and everyone on here that has taken the time to post their advice and support. There were times I wanted to throw it all in but you guys pushed me to keep moving forward and Now i find myself here today almost done and for that I am truely grateful.

Matt, no more vacations until you finish the boat and you have successfully sea trialed the lady.

Matt, now you have to get her out to take some sun and a nice tan, she looks a bit white :D

L

Have been watching your progress from day one. I will certainly make a point of contacting you to view the project face to face when I make it across the island next time.

Remember, anyone can have a white boat. Takes a real man to paint the hull a color other than white.
I get a lot of compliments on my AT34/36 and I do believe it can be attributed to the color of the hull. It is either 'forest green' or 'British racing green'. CHUCKLE
The below boot top is red. That way folks can find the boat if it turns turtle. LOL

Gday mate. Thanks for saying hi. Definitely keen to catch up with contributors from TF anytime mate. When you’re around shoot me a PM and we’ll sort it :)

SOLSTICE is grey and kinda half colour half white so I’m half a man haha.

Gray is a nice color except when running in the fog. Get a BIG LOUD horn and a great radar.

See if you can find a air horn from a Hatteras. Now that will get everyones attention.

I'm color blind! SOLSTICE looks good with any dress on her hull!! - LOL

Hahaha all I can say is thank the lord y’all not picking the colour
Scheme for SOLSTICE hahahaha.

I’m sticking to the orca theme and having light greys, dark greys and whites.

The downside to spraying primer is the sanding ... the primer was rubbed with a graphite guide coat powder and I’m currently sanding it off with P320 on the Air DA Sander. My little little corner sander has seized and I need to give it some love so I’m leaving the internal corners till last and smashing out the rest in the meantime.

Ok so I’m shopping for solar equipment. I’ve decided to buy a Victron MPPT Controller. I am curious about what the last letters stand for. One has MC4, one has TR and the other has nothing apart from the Bluetooth sign.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance all
