GEEEEZ Brother... How in the hell did that stress fracture happen?? :banghead:

Am I correct it looks to go through the weld and into the plate itself... or is that just an optical "seclusion" due to photo quality?

Here's wishing you quickness and ease to arrive at the best fix possible! :D

I agree with Lou in post # 4679. Get it done before splash. :thumb:

The tanks were secondhand ones from a truck that was in an accident. Would have happened then I’m guessing.

Hopefully this is the only crack! No way for you to pressure test them to be sure and fix any issue before being in the water?

I could tighten up the filler cap and charge the tank with air and see if any other leaks show up. I did that with the water tank last year.

This afternoon I keyed out the crack in the tank with the Dremel ready for when I weld it up when the rods come in the mail then I jumped upstairs and sanded the starboard side window sill then gave it the first coat of enamel. Looked at the time and still had a bit of time left up my sleeve so I painted the inside face of the walkway hatch lids and the walkway door. Thanks to my mate Murray for putting me on to an awesome calculator that has helped me work out some performance unknowns.

Due to years experience watching you artfully build your boat... I calculate that your calculations are quite correct! :thumb: :D

PS: Upon closer observation of your prop calc - why "436 ft/lb" in center of second page?

Don’t know mate. Just an automatic calc.

Matt me mate!

I'd keep my eye on that seeming unusual [looking abstract compared to other #'s on the calc pages] ft/lb/ number... in regard to the prop size that calculator automatically makes.

Cheers - While heading to SPLASH!

Thanks mate but the torque isn’t something I’m looking at tbh.

I’ve had two seperate prop companies quote and supply prop calcs and they both have come back with props within .5 of an inch of each other. I’m going to run the three blade prop I have on there atm and then once the shakedown is done I’ll look at the worthiness of a 4 blade.

First coat sanded and 2nd coat of enamel applied.

Heyyy..!!!!! Haven’t heard from you in ages. How are you mate?

Well, pretty good for an old fart. I haven't posted many comments on your thread, but have been following your progress. You're getting closer to splash time.

Understood, mate!

Seems you have it handled regarding prop. Similar to as you self accomplish in most other portions of this unusually profound [and amazing] boat building experience. I'm honored to have been in the right place at the right time to have been able to follow you through from day one to SPLASH... and... your soon to become cruising/fishing fun beyond!

What I meant to infer in spotlighting the unusually high ft/lb stat # observed... was that I'd be careful if an app [calculation program] producing a substantial looking error in the size of one of the #'s; in that end result [i.e. prop dimensions in this case] just might be off a tad!

Cheers!

You don’t even want a 4 blade.
What for I ask?

Torque looks right to me. The gear ratio is 2.03:1. So the shaft rpm is about half of engine rpm and the torque is about doubled after friction losses.

She looks amazing! Sucks about the crack in the tank. I would fix it now rather than trying to later.

Ah ok noted brother :) you certainly are one of the originals

I can’t go any bigger than a 19” to maintain the 15% clearance rule between the blade tip and the hull so figured an extra blade would give me more bite. You disagree mate? All new to me so I’ll take whatever help I can get.

Lol im confused. Is the (2.03) the engine side or the gearbox side. I was reading it that for every 2.03 turns or whatever the prop did the engine did the same but (1) making up the 2.03:1 or it is the other way. I should just stick to the carpentry I think lol

Yeah these things happen. It’s all character building lol. I’m trying to find a clean IBC that I can pump the diesel into. Work has a pump I can use but I need to find somewhere for the 450ltr :-/

This afternoon I fixed the kitchen in place and screwed it off then moved some things around and then sanded the panels and gave them another coat. Afterwards flic came down and we had a few beers and looked at the boats and the water. Was a great way to wind up the working week.

If it was me I would the tank now while out of the water. You never know what can happen while fixing it so if anything goes wrong it would be easier to resolve the issue, just a thought :)

L

Why is it we dont have time to fixed it properly the first time but always have time to do it again.

Take it out, get it welded and put it back in. You will never have to worry about it again.

I'd call her a 2020 - Custom-Artistic Release! :thumb:

Cause, SOLSTICE will be undergoing finishing touches and sea trials during next year or so.
