Hi folks,
I am trying to get my parts list together for my next visit to Harmony, who lies in La Paz, BCS. My starboard rudder needs to be re-packed. Do any of you Californian owners happen to know the size of the packing used in the rudders?

Thanks and cheers, Bill

No idea, never repacked mine since it was new. I take it you've already tried tightening the packing nut down a little more?

1/4 inch.

When I did mine, I bought 3 sizes. When I got it open, I couldn't get any of the old stuff out and had no room to add a full wrap of any of the sizes I had bought. I pulled some strands from the largest size and wrapped them around the shaft, tightened it up and all has been good ever since. 5 or 10 yrs so far.

You are probably done with this, but just in case, to inspire some confidence. I just did mine on a 1977 42 Californian.....1/4 for both rudders and shafts.
