Hello from Galveston

All right! Another Europa. Welcome aboard.

And how did you get her from SF to Galveston?

X2...I looked at a few Europa styles before we bought our boat. Very nice looking boat you have, be sure to post up some more pics when you can.

Where do you berth, GYB? We are in Watermans, small marina on Dickinson Bayou.

RE: Hello from Galveston

Wish I could say we rounded the coast and thru the Panama Canal but instead we loaded her on a trailer and had her brought overland to Galveston. We berth at GYB.

The local boathaulers won't take ours over the road as she is too high* because of the flybridge. I think that the legal height restriction is 13' 8" or 13' 9" and the IG Europa is something like 16' 2" from keel to top of flybridge windshield. Did you run into any height restriction problems? Hopefully, you did not have to cut the flybridge off.

RE: Hello from Galveston

We had truckers decline this haul due to the height but one company referred us to the hauler who ultimately completed the job. There was no height "restrictions" but the permitting for the load was more involved than a load under 14 ft. This hauler is well experienced with the higher loads, came fully equipped and prepared for the job. I took her down to the flybridge, windscreen, bimini, radar arch and handrails on the bridge all removed, no glasswork involved. Loaded height off the pavement was at 16'-09". I would recommend and use this hauler again, he was on time, no deviation from his quoted price.

Welcome aboard Dan and Lori!!! This forum was born in the Clear lake area!!! glad to hear you were able to haul your boat without tearing her down. I thought the only way to haul a flybridge boat would be to take the flybridge off. Anyway, welcome and we may see you around!!!

Hello,

*

I am considering a purchase of a 34' Mainship Sportfish from Los Angeles to Houston ( I live in Pearland).* Can you share the shipper you used?* Was the cost reasonable?

*

Thanks,

goefish, I used Tom Duncan, check out www.thomasduncantrucking.com and yes I did pay a premium because of the height, but very reasonable vrs. chopping the flybridge off. I could find no other willing to touch a load of this height.

We are looking to have one shipped from Michigan to Florida. How much did they charge you?

RE: Hello from Galveston

Quoted cost was $6000.00, This was a premium price due to the height of the load. I did not want to have the flybridge cut off then incur 2 to 3 thousand dollars of fiberglass work to replace it. Estimates of shipping at an "off the pavement"*height of 14 feet or less all came in around $4800.00, so I feel I saved costs by finding a shipper who would deal with the higher transport. The additional costs cover extra permitting required by some states, extra law enforcement escorts, and additional miles necessary beyond normal routes usable for loads below 14 feet. This shipper quoted a price and completed job as promised, on time and provided e-mail updates each day of the journey.

We have a Catalina 42 on E dock. We have decided to buy a trawler. We were looking at trawlers in GYB and saw your Island Gypsy. We thought it was a beautiful boat and I was really surprised to look on Trawler Forum and see your post. If we see you on your boat we will have a lot of questions.

Dan & Lori...welcome to TX & if I had been looking I would have seen your boat as it climbed the very last hill east bound on I-10 before dropping onto the coastal plain at San Antonio.

We're going to join you on Gal Bay in the fall. I'll give Tom a shot at the haul because we're tall too.

Looking at today's weather...hang on, it will pass quickly.
