Albin 36 dimensions

Is this accurate:

LOA: 36 ft 0 in
Beam: 13 ft 2 in
LWL: 13 ft 3 in
Maximum Draft: 3 ft 6 in
Displacement: 18500 lbs
Bridge Clearance: 19 ft 2 in

The bridge clearance is the number I’m most concerned with. I’ve seen a lot of different numbers given. I’m sure there’s lots of variation: flybridge canvas or no Canvas, Bimini height, mast up/down, mast modified...

Does anyone know the unmodified mast-up original height of the boat? As she sits in the water?

Surely forum members have taken their boats under a lot of bridges. When do you go under without worries? When do you lower the mast but leave up your flybridge canvas? And when do you not attempt it at all?

The BEST way is to measure your boat and make a sketch. It os not difficult to do and then you will be positive.

Hi,

I have a similar trawler, I would strongly recommend you measure your vessel. Trawlers are not like Fords and Chevys everyone was a little different when new then years of owners could of made changes. My bridge height mast up is just over the 21’ I was told... but I got a new LED anchor light.

Boat height

I will, but the boat’s in NY and I’m in MI and I’m impatient.

Oops! Sure is. I probably copied it wrong. I'll go find the source. Thanks.

OK. I'll give this a shot.
My height at the flybridge enclosure is just about 16.5 feet. That's a 40 ft Albin trawler, but as I have looked around many marinas, and at boats when they are rafted to me, I observed that most of the flybridge boats in the 30 to 45 ft range are about the same height.
My mast is 22+ ft. I call it 23 because I like round numbers.
I built some rigging so I can quickly and easily lower the mast to "half mast" and fit under a 19 ft bridge.
My draft is speced out at 3.5 ft like yours, but when I measured it was a few inches more so I call it 4 feet.
Hope this helps

Jay, thanks! That’s helpful. I’ll plan on 23’ as I dream up trips for the summer. (Would be very frustrating to dream about a trip on the Erie Canal and not be able to get under the first bridge.) When I get to the boat I’ll measure and post my figures here. The P.O. hinged the rail just aft of the mast so I can lower it aft, but it’s not something I look forward to doing very often. And the enclosure around the fly bridge isn’t coming down easily.

On the 40 the mast is aft of the rail, so no issue there.
If you read the thread on the Albin Owner's Group regarding lowering the mast I posted some pics and description of my system. I can do it myself if necessary and it only takes a few minutes to get to 19 feet.

Hello to SelahWay,
I am Chris, the wife of David, new trawler owners of 1979 Albin 36’ “Molly” from Sodus Point, NY. How good and interesting circumstances to have connected with you! Hoping we can get better acquainted and share adventures! We are spending the MI winter planning our trip back from NY to MI. We’re excited and apprehensive. We have been enjoying the YouTube videos of “Unanchored” about a couple who are new owners of an Albin 36 1980. They are based in Florida. If you haven’t already started following, you might like it too.
I’m curious about your home base? Salt water or fresh water, etc.? Hope to hear back from you.
