We have had our 2004 KK39 for 5 years and love the boat. We have done a lot of cruising and took it from Seattle to Glacier Bay National Park and back. The mast is constructed so it can be lowered. Can anyone share how it is done and what other gear is needed?

I have a kk42. I believe it comes down the same way.
Judy and I do this as follows
Take a line, 1/2 inch is easy to handle. Tie the line around the mast above the spreaders and run it forward to the winch rope gypsy. Tie it off at this point.
Remove the pins from the port and starboard guys.
Remove the bottom bolt on the mast step.
Remove the forward guy line pins

At this point I prepare to guide the mast down

Judy takes a few turns of the 1/2” line around the gypsy and eases it down towards me. I usually need to push the mast towards the stern in order for gravity to help.

A support is necessary to keep the mast from laying on the stern rail.

Putting it up is the opposite

I am able to lift the mast a foot or two. Judy uses the winch to pull it forward.
Slow and steady gets the job done safely.

My 2003 KK 39 has only 1 bolt at the bottom of the mast. I guess the guy wires hold it in place? There are no other pins in the mast base.
