1984 Comfort 38 motor sailor
Comfort 38 Motor Sailor for sale, 11.58m, 1984 | BoatshedSeattle.com
I think its cool!
Aft cabin, forward pilot berth, pilothouse, sails. seems like a nice all around trawler. I'm partial so ailing yachts, so this is right up my alley.
Does anyone know anything about these and any know issues with the builder?
Comments?

It almost looks like a fisher in build. But I am new to trawlers so what do I know. It's cool, I know that much. I'd sign up if I didn't have something already - like the option to sail or motor.

The advert says it`s built in the yard which builds Ocean Alexander.

Looks just like the Monk 38 motorsailer that was in the slip next to us about 4 years ago in Friday Harbor. That was at the Warbass Marina. There's another one with a green hull named "Island Time" at the Port of Friday Harbor, and when we had our sailboat in Port Hadlock there was one there too. Very nice layout, very comfortable. Our neighbor Rick said the boat was great under power and would sail pretty much downwind only. I believe he had lived aboard his for many, many years and was quite happy with the boat.
I'd look at the photos but can't stand the Boatshed way of doing things. I registered with them about two years ago when looking for our current boat (they had the Willard/Garden 51 I wanted so bad...). Besides having a very negative experience with the local broker, I kept getting calls and emails on other boats I wasn't interested in for awhile. Totally annoying.

Yes - I like it too. You can look at the video on You tube without signing up.
Like many motorsailers, it wouldn't point into the wind very well with its limited sail area. It appears to have a fairly short boom. A proper motorsailer should at least be able to claw its way off a lee shore if needed.
Like with mine, the advantage of the sails is mainly as stabilization in a beam sea, and backup propulsion, or just a leisurely downwind cruise without listening to the engines. With a round soft chined hull, some sort of stabilizer system is nice to have.

From ahead she looks like a fisher, but that stern is all trawler!

kind of reminds me of the newer IP SPCruiser. Out of my price range, but still a nice trawler.

It's a shame such a nice boat was listed with such a lousy brokerage. I also refuse to jump through the hoops they require to get details on their listings. The YouTube video was about useless to any knowledgeable potential buyer and it is a Saloon, not a salon fool!

Comfort 38
I see three of these boats for sale and I'd like o learn more. Question why where so few of these boats built and how sea worthy are they? Would it be safe to take one across the pacific? Is the designer Monk or Monk Jr. still alive and if so approachable on this design.

Comfort 38 built in Taiwan by C&L which went on to become Ocean Alexander. 38 built to Lloyds 101, designed by Monk and 9 were built.
I own a C&L 39 Sea Ranger Europa and would like to swap for a Comfort 38.
