Our 2004 Mainship Trawler the stanchions had machine screws with backing plates or nuts inbedded in glass below. We had to repair one part of the deck rail which required removing one of the stanchions the machine screws came out and tightened without any problems. Without tearing the boat up we could not have worked with any nuts below.
