Mainship Pilot 34 for sale

I am selling my 2003 Mainship Pilot 34. It has a hardtop, single engine Yanmar 370, NextGen 3.5 KW genset, air conditioner, Raymarine chart plotter, radar and auto pilot, bimini over aft cockpit, AB dinghy and 9.8 hp Tohatsu. It has all of the Rum Runner package equipment.

The price is $129,000. The boat is in Essex, Connecticut moored on the Connecticut River. PM me or call 949-244-1496 if you want more information.

Unfortunately my wife is getting more and more freaked out by boating. Fifteen years ago she crossed the Gulf Stream for the Bahamas in the middle of the night on a sailboat with me and also did severalovernight passages. Admittedly she didn't like them although there was one glorious overnight passage from Marco Island to Key West where dolphins escorted us much of the way in the moonlight.

Today she is concerned about hitting the ferry that crosses from Connecticut to LI in the middle of the day. I am not that bad of a skipper; I can miss a 150' long ferry, most of the time ;-). So when it gets like that, you just have make a decision: wife or boat. As you can see, I chose the wife.


But we will continue to use Bella until she sells. Tomorrow we are going to Watch Hill, Ct and anchor out overnight. A front came through last night and it will be in the 50s overnight. Watch out for the ferries!!

We have a camping trailer. So that is our next adventure. No ferries!!

Say it ain't so David. Is there any chance you wife would consider just taking a few months off from boating to see if she truly wants to depart this lifestyle? Perhaps dry docking the boat while the weather is still nice might change her mind. Either way, I do hope you will continue to participate here. You are a wealth of information and I have always looked forward to reading your posts.
On the lighter side at least you will not have to put up with Yahoo's crappy format anymore.

Um, yeah, that will freak anyone out! All those red and green lights coming at you, and you trying to figure it all out ("I see a green light coming straight toward me, so that means I am inside his cone, since I cannot see his port(red) light!".) And the pathetic cries of the newbies, with their innocent mewling on VHF " . . . big ship on my starboard, I am under sail, and I have the right of way!" Fun. If you survive.

David I'm sorry to hear that, but I totally understand. A good wife is obviously way more important than a boat, and it sounds like you two had some great boating adventures together so it's not like you missed out on anything. Good luck with the sale-- someone will get a nicely updated, well maintained boat for sure!

Well, I have a reprieve. Yesterday we made what was supposed to be our last cruise over to Watch Hill, Connecticut to anchor out behind the Napatree peninsula.


It started off rocky as my wife wouldn't let me go under the Old Lyme RR bridge on the Connecticut River as it was going down. The bridge has 19' of clearance and I need 11'. So we waited until it was almost down. I admit it was a little scary approaching that bridge which I had been under a dozen times closed as it came down.


But the trip was delightful, the anchorage was gorgeous and the beach dune walk was spectacular. The only negative was we forgot the coffee for the next morning. Oh well.


But we did decide to give it until the end of the season to decide about selling the boat and make a week long cruise to Narragansett Bay that we had planned. So she (the boat dummy) is no longer for sale and I will be around to help out on the forum until then and for the foreseeable future.

Yes, maybe so. When we bought the boat in late 2012 it was docked at a yacht club in Westport, Ct. I never met the owner though. We moved the boat to North Carolina for a few years, and then moved it back to Connecticut where we now live.


It is a nice boat, with all of the cruising equipment you could want. We plan to take her to Newport, Potter Cove, Bristol, East Greenwich, and Wickford, RI for a weeklong cruise next month.

I know that you suggested something like that in a PM, but since it was a spur of the moment overnighter and on a Wednesday, I didn't communicate with you. We normally do these in the middle of the week and I noticed that the Napatree anchorage was somewhat crowded even on a Wednesday- well all is relative- there was room for a couple of dozen more boats and at least half of them went home before dusk.


But we may take advantage of our Brewer's card and stay at their marina in Mystic sometime over the next few weeks. I will PM you.

Very happy to hear that you will be keeping the boat, even if just for the rest of the season. I looked over the pictures and she looks like a gem. I noticed it has a double sink in the galley. Did you put that in or did you get her like that? Do you know the brand and size? I always felt that the stock sink is pretty useless for serious use.

AFAIK, the double sink was the OEM installation at the time mine was built. I am the third owner and the original owner kept receipts for all upgrades and there are none for a sink. I am sure that the second owner didn't upgrade it.

I will be on the boat in a week or so and will check to see if there is any manufacturer identified and let you know.

David I am new here but have been shopping for a Mainship 34 for a while now. I am currently looking at a hardtop in Port Washington but might not be able to come to terms on price, plus I am worried about some soft decks in the aft cockpit. I would love to look at one in Essex if you decide to sell. I'm from Long Island and can come up on my Searay or Bridge Port Ferry for a look if you decide to sell.

I feel for you since this is going to be a trial for us also. My wife loves spending the day on the boat, moored up in Mount Miserry Cove. She dislikes actually going from one place to another on the boat. I am hoping that a bigger, slower and more stable boat will convince her that cruising will not be so bad.

So happy sailing in the mean time, and next time you pass that 115' (not 150') ferry in the Connecticut river wave, I might be the captain driving it.

We had cruised there fifteen years ago when we were full time cruising and recall that there are lots of interesting places to go in the bay and is closer to the long range places we like- Martha's Vineyard and the Elizabeth Islands.
