Don of MV Bacchus has posted regarding his repair to stop bilge leaks but are their other late model 34 owners who have also removed the rubrail to reseal the joint?

If so, I would appreciate your sharing your efforts, particularly any issues that came up during the work.

My main concern is that the current rubrail comes off without damage so that it can be reapplied after the seal.

Thanks.

Interested in the replies, once after a heavy rain we had water in the bilge. Never could find the leak, could be the rub rail? This will be a project for the new year.

Thanks Ray

Ray...
Not sure if you found my post that Harlen mentioned but here is a link Repairing Hull-Deck Joint -Rubrail Leaks

I've written up my experience including some links that I found useful.
Steven Cyr - Stella Blue has a great summary with good photos of the root cause of the leaks and suggestions for repair.
I followed his lead and have been pleased w/ results. He also inspired me to start a boat webpage to share my experiences & adventures.
See the link in my signature - Page 4 in the Projects section is where you will find the hull-deck joint repair.

I'm happy to answer questions / share experiences.

If others have completed similar repairs it might be helpful to post them as replies to my posting..or maybe we can get a moderator to link/combine these threads to provide a more complete picture.
Also open to differing opinions & experiences if they are out there.

Fresh water in bilge

Hi Ray, I saw this post when browsing the forum.
- possibilities for the fresh water in the bilge water :
- the seal around the engine hatch door leaking on a hard rain( I attempted to form a silicone gasket)
- the overflow / vent when topping off the fresh water tank.

Just a thought!, Hope you're still loving that boat . A happy and healthy new year to you and Patsy. Regards, Larry & Debbie :):):)
