2006 Mainship Bilge/Engine Area Lights

Hello,

I have 4 Flameproof lights in the engine/bilge area and they draw more current that I feel is necessary with the LED lamps available today. They say Eurolight on them but no obvious part number is on the unit nor the lamp.

It looks to be a normal 2 pin halogen lamp.

Anybody replace these with LED lamps yet?

Looks like a G4 bi-pin, and LED discs (and other formats) with bi-pins are available from several sources. We got our most recent ones from marinebeam.com... after noticing that some earlier iterations from other suppliers were showing signs of excessive heat on the backplane.

FWIW, we saved enough with LEDs on that circuit to be able to add a 5m string of rope lights in the ER, too, and that made an even better difference.

Actually, now that you mentioned it, I wasnt sure so I measured it and its 5mm...glad you said something. I had to look up what G4 meant (inside dims of the legs)

If they are same/ similar to my '08 34HT they are the G4. I got the brightest ones I could find on SuperBrightLEDS.com and very happy with results.
My amp draw went from about 20 A to 2-3 A for the bilge light circuit.

I replaced the four ceiling lights in our ER with six LED light bars - wow, 10 times more light and a fraction of the amp draw. Now every light fixture/bulb on the boat is LED.

Thihking about the same change. Any tips on re installing the pin type bulbs. They seem hard to slide in without breaking one or more pins?

Yes, you have to insert them in carefully, but it's not to bad, just difficult to see the socket...

I have found it sometimes helps to slightly spread the pins. I think some get squeezed together in handling and need to be spread. If in doubt compare the new to the old and if the same it's a matter of lining it up.
