Who Else did Cheer Men build for?
Hello,
I have a 1984 PT 38' Europa style Sedan built in the Cheer Men Yard of Taiwan.
I have head that other brands were built there also.....
Does anyone have any info on who they may be?
Years, models and lengths would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Who Else did Cheer Men build for?
From what I know of the Taiwanese makes of the 80's, it really depended on what orders they had coming in. It was just about a free-for-all then with US dealers ordering boats faster than they could be made. If they needed 10 of one model, they would sometimes have to order 5 from one yard, 3 from another, and 2 from someplace else. The yards were family run and they all shared the same hull molds. I mean, yours looks just like a Marine Trader, but on a longer hull. I'll bet it is. So I think it's kind of a crap-shoot. But someone told me I was wrong once before.
Here is an interesting write-up on the makes of that era:

Good luck. Sorry I wasn't very much help.

GonzoF1, you may not have had the answer for albaris, but your post was certainly informative. *As an owner of an 80s Taiwan boat, I found it very useful and had a lot more history of the little ships than I'd seen before. *Thanks for posting!

Who Else did Cheer Men build for?
Gonzo,
Thanks for the info, and I have read that article before....I guess the more I read and inquire....the more confused I become.
I still don't even know if the initials PT mean Performance Trawler, Pacific Trawler or Puget Trawler, but I guess it really doesn't matter. I love my boat and she serves me well.
I guess thats boating to some extent.
Thanks to all who replied.

Hi Al
Your boat is definitely a Cheer Men Performance Trawler 38' Sedan, the same as ours and probably as well loved. I check your website at least once a month, well done.

RE: Who Else did Cheer Men build for?
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your input...I figured all along it was a Performance Trawler. The plaques on the side of my flybridge attest to the fact she was built in the Cheer Men Yard, and all the papers I have with the boat signify that also.
Thank you for visiting my site monthly, as I have been doing the same with your site. You are more of a photo person than I am, for sure. We left this summer on June 8th, returned on September 9th....and I didn't take one picture....LOL. Cameras just never interested me, I guess.
Stay well, enjoy the holidays....and keep on cruisin!!
Al

A performance trawler?* Is that a trawler by appearance but not in performance as in not slow?

Hi Mark
Just the name they called the boat. Al has twins in his, we have just a single of the same motor and saunter around at 7.5 to 8 Knots and enjoy the scenery.

I just found your posting on Cheer Men yards in Taiwan.
My boat was also built in 1985 at Cheer Men Marine, Kaohsiung Taiwan, R.O.C Its faceplate states it is a PT 38 Trawler, Model D.C. In the USA, it was sold under the brand name "Hershine". I know of a few other boaters who recognize the Hershine name, mostly from boats along the East Coast of the USA. Very little is known now about this brand name. If you hear of anything, I am always looking for more info. A photo of my trawler is used as my avatar. Great boat. The interior layout is superb and I feel lucky to own her.
