I just bought a 1980 54' Westlake pilothouse Trawler.* Westlake Yacht Sales had 54' and 60' trawlers built in taiwan in the 80's.* They went out of business in 1988.* The Manufacturer Id Code is ENZ.* Has anyone else seen another trawler like this?* I think most are on the west coast.

I have heard but not confirmed they built 12 54' versions.* They look like a Defever or Cheoy Lee from that era....

I have to say, that's one fine looking boat, Cap'n!

Yes, real business-like and roomy, and yet good-looking as well. Nice one.

Looks identical in every way to a Cheoy Lee.

Doesn't the Cheoy Lee have a rounded canoe type stern, or is that just the 65?

That's just the 66. This is the Cheoy Lee 55. This 55 does have the sweep in the sheer line and doesn't have the rounded doors and pilothouse windows of many other CL's.

The Westlake trawler has 3208T Cats in it, which is the same engines as the 1980's 55 Cheoy Lee trawler's.* The hull looks very similiar, but does not have a mast and boom.

Very nice boat!!!

Jason,

She's a beautiful boat indeed. *She looks a lot like a friend's 50' Marine Trader; also a Taiwanese built yacht.

Hi, first post here to you folks. I'm a powerboater with a 7 year project, refurbished sportfish which I did myself from new engines to awlgripand everything in between. I fish off shore and still am working so I can get out and back fast. I am retiring in 7 years and I plan to keep this sportfish till then but I want to purchase a 40' trawler that needs a LOT of work so I can refurb over the next 7 yrs. I have my eye on a 40' Cheoy Lee LRC really cheap and I have some questions.
Is the hull cored or solid?
Are the decks cored or solid or glass over ply?
Does it have full displaced hull with hard chines, soft chines or round?

Few yachts are better designed for cruising than the Cheoylee 40 Long Range Cruiser. From flybridge to keel, whe has many design features that provide practical cruising pleasure. The flybridge offers the helmsman an unobstructive view. Teak decks on the bridge and the wide side deck provide not only beauth but sure footing as well. The Cheoylee40 LRC's displacement and fuel and water capacities show you get more real boat than others advertised to be close to the same size. She carries 710 gallons of diesel and over 600 gallons of fresh water. These capacities provide the boat with a range of 1,500 miles at 9 knots and over 2,500 miles at 7.5 knots. The deep forefoot and fine bow entry together with its long deep keel and a displacement hull make her sea-keeping qualities unequalled in a boat this size. An owner written article in 10/1978 issue of Motor Boating & Sailing described how a Cheoy Lee 40 LRC completed a 20,000 mile voyage from Hong Kong to Florida, crossing on its way the Sough China Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the Caribbean.
