CHB "Modern Trawler" 42 King Sedan (Europa)

Hi all;

First post... We just got a fantastic deal on a 42' Europa Trawler and I'm having some difficulty finding out more about her and her pedigree.* I know this is difficult on many of these, but she is a 42 CHB that was marketed as a "Modern Trawler 42" and although I have all the blueprints and design drawings, owners manual and other sales brochures, I'm not able to find anything about a "Modern Trawler" line or a "King Sedan" as the boats paperwork describes.

Also... the HIN indicates a CHB, but we have been unable to locate the HIN in the usual places on the boat.* Any hints on where folks have found them?

*

Hey Mike. Welcome aboard! I have an '83 CHB and the HIN number is on the starboard side of the transom as you would expect. I haven't heard the names you mentioned but there is a good chance Charles Culotta will see this post and respond. He use to have some great info on his boating website- but I think he has shut it down recently.
Great looking ship!! Which engines?

Twin 120 Lehmans.* I've got all the original blueprints and the designer's notes as well as some of the brochure information, but can't for the life of me find any HINs.* Everything is kosher with the title and I have the original owners logs and notes, but I assume it had a HIN somewhere.*

Mike
You may want to post your question up top under the general questions. I think not so many folks look down here on the forum.

I figured the real loyal "experts" would be down here in the Taiwanese Makes section.

All I want is to see more pics of this lovely boat! I like The Europa design, but I would need to have an aft stateroom design. I don't do v-berths. :-D

*She's got an island berth in the forward stateroom, and the guest stateroom that is normally on the port side just aft of there has been converted to a chartroom / office.* Nice place for a small library and all the cool nautical reading we all accumulate over the years.

She has a island queen bed so the wife is happy (we also own a Bayliner 2859).

I know what you mean about the Queen berth being a treat. Our last vessel was a 2859 which sank in Katrina. I remember the looks I would get from the first mate when I had to climb over her to go to the head at 2 AM. It was a very smart vessel though mostly. We had the Alaskan Bulkhead and spent a lot of time on her before she sank.

Here's our 2859. Arguably the best equipped 2859 around.

If you can't tell... I have my own commercial sewing machine and am not afraid to use it.*

Can't wait to start making covers and such for the trawler.

RE: CHB "Modern Trawler" 42 King Sedan (Europa)

I was wondering when looking through that list if it was complete.

The HIN starts with CBK which indicates a CHB model, but I've only been able to locate one other like it.

Here's one a year newer (1981) up in Alaska. Very close in layout and almost identical to my 1980:

http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listi...6858&noOfPic=1

Mine is nearly identical, but it doesn't appear that he has a door off the wheelhouse on the port side like mine, and there are many other interior features that are different.

Mike
It seems to be common to see differences even within the same model and year. We actually looked at two 1983 Present Sundecks (Chung Hwa)at the same time at the same broker 6 years ago- and purchased one. Ours had an angled queen, no breakfast nook and a centered entry on the sundeck. The other was totally opposite, along with a completely different swim step, ladder from the swimdeck and it had a swing door where we have a lift up railing. Seems like each boat has their own "personality".
