Hi all;

First post... We just got a fantastic deal on a 42' Europa Trawler and I'm having some difficulty finding out more about her and her pedigree.* I know this is difficult on many of these, but she is a 42 CHB that was marketed as a "Modern Trawler 42" and although I have all the blueprints and design drawings, owners manual and other sales brochures, I'm not able to find anything about a "Modern Trawler" line or a "King Sedan" as the boats paperwork describes.

Also... the HIN indicates a CHB, but we have been unable to locate the HIN in the usual places on the boat.* Any hints on where folks have found them?

Hey Mike. Welcome aboard! I have an '83 CHB and the HIN number is on the starboard side of the transom as you would expect. I haven't heard the names you mentioned but there is a good chance Charles Culotta will see this post and respond. He use to have some great info on his boating website- but I think he has shut it down recently.
Great looking ship!! Which engines?

Twin 120 Lehmans.* I've got all the original blueprints and the designer's notes as well as some of the brochure information, but can't for the life of me find any HINs.* Everything is kosher with the title and I have the original owners logs and notes, but I assume it had a HIN somewhere.* :)

Well good luck. You are gonna love the Lehmans I'm sure!

Mike
You may want to post your question up top under the general questions. I think not so many folks look down here on the forum.

I figured the real loyal "experts" would be down here in the Taiwanese Makes section. :)

I'm sure you will we offer much more "loyal" than "expert" on the site :)!

All I want is to see more pics of this lovely boat! I like The Europa design, but I would need to have an aft stateroom design. I don't do v-berths. :-D

You are right, the loyal Taiwanese owners do read down here. Great look vessel, we have a PT 38 Sedan. Hull looks the same from there up different, hope you have as many good times as we have, Enjoy!

*She's got an island berth in the forward stateroom, and the guest stateroom that is normally on the port side just aft of there has been converted to a chartroom / office.* Nice place for a small library and all the cool nautical reading we all accumulate over the years.

She has a island queen bed so the wife is happy (we also own a Bayliner 2859).

I know what you mean about the Queen berth being a treat. Our last vessel was a 2859 which sank in Katrina. I remember the looks I would get from the first mate when I had to climb over her to go to the head at 2 AM. It was a very smart vessel though mostly. We had the Alaskan Bulkhead and spent a lot of time on her before she sank.

Here's our 2859. Arguably the best equipped 2859 around. :)

If you can't tell... I have my own commercial sewing machine and am not afraid to use it.* :)

Can't wait to start making covers and such for the trawler.

Here is a list of the CHB models.

It is from the "CHB PILOT" website.* *** KJ

I was wondering when looking through that list if it was complete.

The HIN starts with CBK which indicates a CHB model, but I've only been able to locate one other like it.

Here's one a year newer (1981) up in Alaska. Very close in layout and almost identical to my 1980:

http://www.yachtworld.com/core/list...au/AK/United-States&boat_id=2236858&noOfPic=1

Mine is nearly identical, but it doesn't appear that he has a door off the wheelhouse on the port side like mine, and there are many other interior features that are different.

Mike
It seems to be common to see differences even within the same model and year. We actually looked at two 1983 Present Sundecks (Chung Hwa)at the same time at the same broker 6 years ago- and purchased one. Ours had an angled queen, no breakfast nook and a centered entry on the sundeck. The other was totally opposite, along with a completely different swim step, ladder from the swimdeck and it had a swing door where we have a lift up railing. Seems like each boat has their own "personality".

Hey Mike
When you post a pic you will want use the other thumbnail method I think. If not we end up with a very WIDE thread!

Congrats on your trawler purchase. She looks great. The Wife and I are on a hunt our selfs. Lots to look at in this market under a 100k.
Have fun.

Let's see some of the links to what you are looking at, Tom.

When comparing a Modern Boat Corporation 42 Europa to many of the others, I've found the easiest to spot "major" difference is in the number of risers that are in the walk-around.* Mine (a Modern 42) has three...* and many of the CHB's I'm seeing have only two.

It's hard to explain sutble differences, but I'm trying to find out more about our 42 Modern Europa.* (is it a true CHB?)

chb

I purchased a 42 chb about the same time you got yours. As you can tell, many chb owners have the same issue. I would love to see more photos and if possible get a copy of the blue prints and sales items you recieved with your boat. I had to make some upper deck repairs which required replacing half the upper deck and all 4 supports. She is sound now and a great boat.

We have no info on the blueprints or systems installed on the boat. The po has every manual and great records additions. However; the fuel, electrical, water, MSD ventilation systems , and more are a seek and find mission. Do you have any info or possibly a site.

Hope you can help, many thanks
Chris

I checked the Chubby archive and found a four riser 42' that looks as if it could have been in the same harbor as one of the above.

Very close. Some other small differences though. The lack of teak on the foredeck, no Samson post or teak hand rail along the foredeck. It does have the doors on both prot and stbd side, which I've only found on mine so far.

Funny how similar, and yet still different. Any idea what model that one is?

Just pulling your chain, SS. The four riser probably doesn't exist. It's just a Photo-Shop knock-off for a guy who's deck was sagging in the middle, and wanted to see how it would look with two (vs. one) riser in the center. Yards and fabricators slide me a few bucks to do a mock-up for the customer when the costs are over 10K or so. I used your photo of the Australian boat above for the conversion.

Too funny. I have a CHB 45 Europa two slips over that has two risers. I think for that much deck, I'd prefer the three, but I think four would be too much.

Mine is most similar to the layout of an early Marine Trader 42 Europa (three risers).

I have a Europa model Blue Ocean 45, 1984, produced in Taiwan by CHB for a Shipyard in Holland.
Engines 2x250 Volvo Tamd 60 B. We bought it in 1998 and still enjoying him.
