kent narrows/knapp narrows

Currently in Rock Hall Md for a few days. Going to Oxford from here and am thinking about using Kent narrows. Has anyone been through there recently? Many conflicting comments on Active Captain. We draw 4'6" with a single screw, big skeg and very protective bronze shoe under the rudder/prop. Not afraid to push mud. Also will be using Knapp narrows after Poplar island. Air draft 22'6" so will need bridge openings. On the way to west coast Fla / Ft Meyers eventually.

Not recommended

I was there about three weeks ago going from west to east. The AtoN pilings just aren’t clear when compared to the Navionics charts. The short cut just isn’t worth it.

We went through there about six weeks ago in a DeFever 44 drawing nearly 5 feet. Skinny but not as bad as many places in Georgia and South Carolina. Don't follow yiur charts. The channel markers are there for a reason. Follow them. I would use this channel again. There are two very large marinas right there with plent of boats drating 4.5 - 5 feet or more.

We haven't been through either Kent or Knapp's Narrows for a few months, but we have boatloads of buds going through both of those all the time... shouldn't be a problem, just follow the markers.

Since you're going to Oxford, you can also go to Cambridge; worth a visit. The Hyatt offers a bit of a deal (3 nights for 2) at serious expense or the city marina is within walking distance of the downtown area.

And since you're going through Kent Narrows, a side trip to St. Michael's would also be worth some time. The main way to do that would be down the Miles River. Easy access to the town, three marinas to chose from (Higgins Yacht Yard is the least expensive), veery decent maritime museum right there... Or another way would be to hang a left en route Oxford and anchor out in San Domingo Creek, sort of on the back side of St. Michael's, and dingy in to the public dock back there.
