No point in beating one's self up for getting into trouble. He should draw strength in being able to get himself out, and knowledge to recognize how to avoid getting caught again.

Almost everyone with a few gulf stream crossings has had a bad one. I know I have. I’ll never forget a night crossing in November, 1987 in a 20 knot north wind. The only time I stopped crying, was to throw up!
