I just bought a Gulfstar, and have a leaky head.* I cleaned the opening and used lemon pledge to*lubercate and soften the seals, and the vacume holds for a little while, but slowly the water level drops, and the hissing starts.

Congratulations on your new boat. Sounds like you need to replace the rubber seal to the ball (possibly the ball too) at the bottom of the bowl. I do our every couple of years as a maintenance routine.

Agree, but before you do try a good cleaning and lube the ball with Nutek Shield it is a dry film lubes works for me I have two Vacu-flush head on my boat. Good Luck

You also might try holding the ball open and gently running a ladies emery board around the rim on under side of the hole. But, new seals are easy to replace. Just be sure to read the directions about lining up (or not) the little holes on the two pieces of rubber.

I had these. Usually a good cleaning with a rag, and lubing the seal with silicone grease would work. You also need to let the ball "snap" back into place... don't use your foot to let it close slowly.

I cured this problem with the good advice to put about 1/2 cup ordinary white vinegar in the toilet with a like amount of water and let it sit for 15 - 20 minutes. *I work it around with a toilet bush and flush, using the brush to work the mixture into the seals. *Rinse and repeat. *After three vinegar rinses, the seal held. *The vinegar disolves solids that can create a vacuum leak.

Thanks to all of you that responded, I have tried most of your suggestions, but I have ordered new seals. I found an old invoice where the previous owner ordered the replacement seals, and they have them in stock
