1990 Grand Banks 32 #834
OMG!--a manufacturing defect on a Grand Banks! Just kidding; this is the best-built boat I have ever owned. But, the 25-gallon heavy-duty plastic holding tank on my 1990 GB 32 (#834) WAS built with an internal pickup tube made of metal which completely corroded after 29 years. Only a couple of gallons of waste would come out before the pump started sucking air. The top of the tank is just a few inches below the cabin sole so, to replace it, I first had to cut a hole in the cabin sole (under the drawers behind the helm seat, fortunately), remove the metal flange holding the tube and vent, build a new one out of PVC, and replace. Of course, I replaced and re-sealed the sole cutout, so no new noise, heat, or fumes gets into the cabin. All in all, not that hard a job, and the PVC should last forever. If you want more details, feel free to PM me.

It is surprising that the metal tube lasted that long. Good job with the repair.
