RE: Optical Dillusion
Actually, I watched that entire Americas cup series between Oracle and Alinghi, and although in terms of what it is usually run as, ie monohulls to a class standard and as a full elliniation series, it was a one-off and not comparable, it was never-the-less impressive. The design concepts pushing the envelope were amazing. I never thought to see a trimaran lifting both outer and middle hulls and flying, but Oracle did. Alinghi never stood a chance. Yet before the race, one would normally have anticipated the cat with two hulls would be faster....
Still I am looking forward once again to the runing of a 'proper' Americas Cup, when and where they decide it will be.
