I was just reading a thread in the cruising section about travelling to Cuba. Guantanamo Bay sprung to mind , not in the political sense but as part of those curious pieces of territory that a foreign country has, through historic reasons, taken over a piece of another country.
It can lead to some curious social situations not to mention a bit of political grandstanding. I have been to Gibraltar a few times, firstly in the 80's when the Spanish were very indignant about the Brits being there at all, so entry was a little difficult to access from the mainland. However this indignation didn't stop the Spanish having a foothold on the North African coast at Ceuta.
Also, there are the principalities within Italy, that do their own thing, from running famous Formula One races to large religious empires. It makes interesting reading as to how these situations arose.
