Manual reversion of electronic diesels

I was on a friend's sportfish. It was Powered by Detroit DDECs. There is a manual reversion on this boat...I guess an answer to the doomsday folks on here. Anyway, for people that know(Ski, Rick,etc.) Is this a true manual reversion or what exactly does it do and what does it afford you???

If engines are still DDEC, that thing I think just bypasses some of the electronic helm controls or shift. The engine is still full electronic- injectors will not squirt without the computer.

DDEC is somewhat unique amongst electronic engines in that it can be converted back to full mechanical.

Its still all electric , the DD just has a get home mode to marginally operate the engine.

IF you need an engine that is mechanical, you have to purchase one.

A couple of the eng mfg of the world have heard you and are very busy creating a pure mechanical engine for commercial and 3rd world use.
