We just arrived in Stuart, via AICW from Upper Eastern Shore on the Chesapeake. We are planning on crossing to the West Coast in April, and exploring that area thru June. We prefer anchoring out. In June we want to move the boat to a safe marina thru late September. We will not be on the boat during that time. We will return in September and continue to explore. We are looking for recommendations in the Ft. Myers, Cape Coral area that can keep our boat safe June thru September and then be our home marina as liveaboards.

Message FF. He has a safe spot behind his house he rents out from what I hear. It is inland past LaBelle.

Plenty of space here , no problems during the summer for storahe.

Electric for battery charging is usually included , but air cond , reefer , freezers and de humidifier is usually on a meter , depends on the neighbor setup.

Live aboard is more difficult as only a couple of folks can be bothered.

For long term use we have a different property with a dock , that would work.

However we are very remote , about 13 miles to town and the nearest traffic light.

The FT Myers city marina or Fishermans Village further up the west coast would be better if you like to be closer to town.

If your boat is set up as a cruiser and a couple of months on the hook is desired Gulfport has a great harbor , but if air cond is required a marina is far cheaper than 24/7 noisemaker.

Here is one option you may not of thought of. It's expensive to store a boat in the water in south Florida so you might want to consider storing it ashore. I've used Safe Cove boat storage, formally All American Boat Storage in Port Charlotte.
The boat is out of the water during part of the hurricane season and you can get some bottom work done if needed. You use to be able to do your own work there, I presume you still can.

Thanks so much for the suggestions, will look into them.

Be sure to check the land elevation of any storage area near a coast .

About 11 ft above high water is required for a CAT 4 and 16 or so for a CAT 5 ..

We have been lucky for the past few years , but it wont last forever .

Hi Tim,

Just looked that up. Great rates. Thinking an option for winter and use for Florida cruising point.

Never knew such places (size and scope) existed. Thanks for your post.

Thanks again for all the great advice. Good to know that we have some solid options

We are currently at The Yacht Basin in Ft Myers and really love it. The Staff is great and will go out of their way to assist. I would have not problem leaving our vessel for several months. ALSO... we recently spent 2 months at Safe Cove performing needed bottom work and other repairs...great yard and very reasonable. Fantastic security with keypad entry and complete access shutdown after 8pm. Matt, the yard manager, is great and Painter George does fantastic Awlgrip work. They have large concrete storm anchors to secure your vessel during storage. Easy 8 hour cruise from Ft Myers. Cheers!
