I want to clean and put red bulbs for nighttime use.

I tried to pry the lens off but they acted like they wanted to break.

Anyone familiar with these lights?

Try sliding the lense right or left. If it will move it should pull off.

some can't be opened...like sealed trailer lights....

I hope they can be opened, how would you replace burned out bulbs?

whole new fixture...but the replace fixture ones are usually pretty cheap looking...really can't tell from the pic....

How would I attach replacements when some of the lights are in unaccessible places like the flybridge stairs?

if you can see screw heads...the lens comes off....

Almost looks like the screws are behind the lens. Chances are the plastic lens is so brittle it will break before it comes off.

Guess I'll try a super thin straight blade and hope for the best.

Does anyone make a timer that I can install into the circuit? I want these to light for easy nighttime boarding.

Yes they are.

Maybe I should call Cruisers and find out the make and model number of these lights.

Looks like it may have gotten brittle. You could try a little heat on it to make the lense expand. Most courtesy lights are cheaply made. Try looking on Attwood, Perko etc. websites for specs on their lights.

Probably so. I'll break out the heat gun and give it a whirl.

Is it possible that the ring around the lens pops off with the lens?? Just a thought. I have about half my salon lights in red leds and even in the V berth and head there are duplicate fixtures for red.

Suggestion:

I'd make sure power to lights is detached or at very least surely kept off; due to flammable nature of penetrator fluids' vapors.

With Q-Tip saturate Liquid Wrench (or another penetrator liquid) all around lens edge. If after 24 hrs it does not come off... I'd reapply. I've found that other light lenses could be freed this way after years of being attached. Also, lens may need to be somewhat "pinched together" on its sides or ends... to help release internal friction or keyed clips.

I had similar lights on my last boat. The lenses just snap in - and out. Not sure if solvents will make it any better. They could make the plastic gooey. Use a tiny screwdriver to gently pry the lens off.

Yes, our courtesy lights look like that. There's a small slot on one long side of the lens; insert thin flat blade screwdriver or similar... and the lens pops right off.

The bulbs are T10 wedges, and can be replaced with white, blue, red, whatever LEDs...

Before you attack it with tools or heat, give it a shot of WD40 and let it sit for a day or two, then try the knife blade. Let the WD try to penetrate and loosen up the lens.

Great idea. The Admiral is doing that right now.
