Hollow Keel

(Preview)
Was grinding my bottom off due to delam/hydrolysis...saw a dark spot along the bottom of the keel amidships (looked wet too). So I ground a half inch into the corner of the bottom of the keel and ...wow... a stream of water like a garden hose started... Then I ground some more and double that came out for a...

flybridge rot
(Preview)
I know this has been discussed, so if someone can point me to the appropriate conversation, that would be a huge help. I've started attending to my flybridge, the core being rotten (at least the aft portion), and I'm not sure I want to open the inevitable can of worms. The port/aft corner is the place of w...

Bronze Grounding Plate
(Preview)
Any reason to heep it now that LORAN is gone? I can run more/larger bonding wire to the 2 bolt on transom zincs...that seems to be enough for many boats...just figuring out the advantage of keeping the grounding plate and 2 more holes in the bottom fr4om it.

New to me boat has an enormous amount of smoker's tar on the overhead liner and looking for the best way to clean it off. I have heard that Orange Oil or Sodium Hypochlorite 5% -- diluted to 2 1/2% works! Any ideas that worked would be greatly appreciated!

Hola everyone
I've got some corrosion and peeling paint on my twin Cummins 6BTs as well as two colors of paint. I'm going to clean them up and spray paint them with the original hideous Cummins beige. I've fixed the source of the corrosion.
Mechanic suggested I paint the engine mounts with a specia...

As a part of Skinny Dippin's Charging System Upgrade project that I am undertaking this winter HERE (new window) I need to move a few of the raw water components to make space. Currently, the HVAC and anchor washdown systems share the same thru-hull and strainer. It's been a bit of a pain to send Bess to t...

WestMarine antifouling paint

From what I can tell, Westmarine PCA Gold is the same thing as Pettit Ultima SR 40. The WestMarine paint is exactly $50 / gallon cheaper and I really believe it is the exact same paint. Both contain the same copper content (40) and both contain the same slime ingriedient (irgarol). Is this a case wher...
