Hot Water Temp Control
(

)
(Preview)
I'm in the process of doing a total re-plumb of the boat, including relocating the hot water heater. As I'm setting up the hot water heater, I would like to put some type of control into the system so that when the water is heated via the engine coolant, tap hot water does not come out at 190 degrees (ouch! -...

shower drain

Albin 43-our shower drains fast enough to time with a sand dial. All a matter of gravity, and the angle of the pipes getting to the sump. Has anyone addressed this issue by routing directly overboard or just draining into the bilge aft? John

I am putting the finishing touches my new windless and bow pulpit. I had a "sampson post" placed on the bow pulpit right behind the windless. I have 60 feet of chain rode with 600 feet of rope as well. How do you secure the chain when the anchor is up and how do you secure the rope while the ancho...

Holding tanks - where have you put them???
(

(Preview)
Hi, we are in the process of looking at fitting a holding tank. We'd be interested where other members have fitted their holding tanks and where they routed the pipe runs. We have a 38'er - so generally plenty of space - but once you move out of the area in/above the engine bay it's a major project to fit th...

HVAC conversion from rotary old style to digital controls
(

)
(Preview)
Has anyone done this? The pilothouse we are buying has 3 HVAC units, all with the old style rotary knobs. I never really liked that style b/c unless there is a way to adjust them that I don't know about, the fan runs 24/7 when the unit is powered on. Even our trawler had digital controls. :) So- thinkin...

Manual or Electric Head

There is a good thread on this over in the "Californian" section, which should probably live here. (It's Electric vs Manual heads.) In any event I was asking the question on any recommendations for a manual toilet that would be reliable and quiet. The Raritan PHII seems to come highly rec...

Espar hot airheat help needed
(

(Preview)
I think we have Espar serial number one on our 43 Defever. It lights flawlessly every time as long as we are on shorepower or have the gennie running. On batteries it very seldom makes it through the night if it lights at all. If I start the gennie and light the furnace then I can shut the gennie down with...

Thru Hull Fittings

How many, above waterline, thru hull fittings have you got. Yesterday I counted 11 on on Sarawana. I can account for 7 of them, which has got me wondering what about the other four.It is something that I have not thought much about before. Perhaps it is time for some detective work. A story of above wate...

Back flush vent line

How do you identify the holding tank vent line opening on the outside of the boat? (by smell?) What are the steps to back flushing the vent line? (My impression is to stick the water hose to the vent line opening and turn on the water full blast for 5 seconds) If there is an obnoxious smell everytime we pump...
