Computer crashed yesterday. Of course now that I log on it looks like I haven't been here for several months. Is there a way to accomplish the above without literally looking at every post for the last few months?

Every time I sign on to TF it says I have 1 new private message. I have read all existing PMs but cannot get rid of that alert. i have marked all my PMs for read & unread, back to read, etc and the alert remains.

Just wondering, do the moderators shut down a post when it seems to have terminally wandered from the initial topic. Is it better to shut down a post that degenerates into some pretty toxic aimless mudslinging. It may be a tricky call, but i would venture the current 'Firefly' post is a case in point.
