Been wanting to start this for some time and now that it's winter for quite a few of us perhaps there's time for pics and tell. Here's our chance to share with all our friends what your boat is like close up and out on the water. Try to present photos where your boat is large enough in the picture to see lots of...

Dear Trawlerforum members, Doug and I started this forum simply as a better way to share our passion for boating and trawlering. There was no other forum like it on the internet so we decided somebody should fill the void. I think we succeeded in that regard. Our interests and motivation were for t...

Trawler vs. Sea Ray Sundancer
(
1 2
)
(Preview)
Boating season is fast approaching (at least it is here). I'd like to get the ball rolling with an old boating tradition -- slamming Sea Ray. I know there are Sea Ray owners among us, and I like some of you . So this is nothing personal, just being funny.

Will you be a boater for the rest of your life?
(

(Preview)
Not really an age-related question because some of you old poops already have one foot in the grave Nevertheless, I am curious. Will you, if you have the means, own a boat until you are unable to (or dead)? In other words--- Will a boat be in your will? Sometimes I ponder how long I can, or better yet am w...

Round instrument replacements
(Preview)
I've got two old round instruments on the fly bridge that are totally worthless. It's a bad picture but they are right above the gear shift and the throttles. Anyway, has anyone done anything interesting when replacing them? It looks like there is a 3 or 4" cut out that they are sitting in.

Experience with high modulus poly dock lines..
(Preview)
Anyone have experience using any of the high-tech, polyethylene rope products for your boat's docking lines? I'm thinking high-strength (spendy!) stuff, like Amsteel Blu, to replace traditional braided nylon. I like the feel of Gold-N-Braid nylon, but what appeals to me about the high-t...

Boatless?
(Preview)
Today I went with a friend to tow the yc sailing dinghies out into the harbor for a social sail. One of our major topics of conversation was the price of fuel. I told him that never before in my life was I so happy to be totally boatless. I want another one but I am feeling that now is not the time. So...sh*t -- E...

Last Friday, returning from a Richmond boatyard, I was heading toward home berth in Vallejo. Was on the eastside of Mare Island Straight about a third of a mile from the ferry terminal. The ferry pulled out and made a ninety-degree turn toward the exit to San Pablo Bay, headed directly toward me. A h...

Safety of Gas Engines
(
1 2 3

(Preview)
I am still looking at trawlers and motoryachts. All of the trawlers that I have looked at in my price range so far have diesel engines but the rest of the boat is pretty well shot. The other alternative is a motoryacht. Most motoryachts have gas engines. I feel safe on them when I know they have been well...

Nova Heritage East,,,, Well made ???
(Preview)
Hi, We are looking at a trawler to enjoy cruising and W/E trips. Are the Taiwan boats made well or should they be avoided. We like the looks and they seem to be made well from just looking. Also the pricing seems to be better than Grand Banks etc. The other concern is we have to get into the 87' 88' year range t...

Hi Guys - I'm new to this forum. I've been hanging around for quite a while but I haven't had anything to add or ask until now, and I'm hoping for some advice. We're currently searching for a boat to buy and we know what we want; a 42' Krogen. My wife and I both think they're beautiful and they fit our needs w...
