Well, you certainly have been busy. Nice job, and I hope sea trials all go well.

Onan 15KW Generator Fuel Filter Housing

OK, I misunderstood. That part number appears to be a filter part number, yet you need the housing/ filter head. Perhaps using the filter number you can see what other applications it's used in, then see if you can get the housing from those suppliers. I think I've seen a similar filter on...

Also check your throttle linkages both at the helm and the engine. Something might be slowly working itself loose.

Are boats too complicated or we too incompetent?

Why does having it down prevent running the boat? I could imagine it would impede operation, but shut it down completely such that you need a tow? I don't know much about them.

    Heat exchanger crack

Ouch. I suspect JB Weld or similar won't last, and that welding or replacement is the best route. Is Phasor still in business? It might be worth a call to see if a replacement is available and what the cost would be. Probably crazy expensive, if even available, but worth knowing your...

Comnav CT 3 Controller with Furuno Nav Pilot 300.

It looks like the NavPilot 300 only supports a two wire reversing motor, the CT3 expected on/off solenoid input signals, and the pump is a split field reversing motor that I know nothing about. Your simplest and most economical solution might be to replace the steering pump with a conventional...

    ABYC ELCI requirement

That's all part of an insurance company deciding if they want to write a policy in the first place, and I agree it's very problematic. I can guarantee that any older boat doesn't meet all current ABYC standards, and I don't think any insurance company expects them too. The question then is...

Comnav CT 3 Controller with Furuno Nav Pilot 300.

So it's a CT3 and not a CT4? I can't find a manual for a CT3 so can't tell what it does, or what it expects for a control signal.

    ABYC ELCI requirement

I don't mean to discourage following best practices - actually just the opposite, but I don't think what you are saying above is true. I hear it all the time, but unless your policy says you need to maintain the boat in compliance with ABYC (or anything else), they have no grounds to deny a...

Upgrade electronics package for 2008 Helmsman 38

You could certainly eliminate all that equipment from your trawler too..... just sayin.

Comnav CT 3 Controller with Furuno Nav Pilot 300.

Actually, it looks like the Navpilot 300 is only compatible with reversing pumps, not with solenoid pumps. I think you need the Navpilot 700. Or you will need to create some electrical interface between the reversing voltage output from the NP300 to control AC solenoids.

Comnav CT 3 Controller with Furuno Nav Pilot 300.

Can you sketch up exactly how you have the Navpilot and CT4 wired together? I see the CT4 expects a +5V input. Where is that coming from? I'm quite familiar with the NavPilot 700, and hopefully that translates to the NP 300. In the setup process, the pilot asks you to turn the rudder fully...

    ABYC ELCI requirement

Here's the language from the currently published version of E-11, amended as of 7/2023. It's a bit different from what was posted earlier, but the same exception is in place. 11.11.1 An equipment leakage circuit interrupter (ELCI) or Type A residual current device (RCD) shall be installed with...

DD 6-71 ti air in fuel system

The fuel cooler is on the return, right? Could there be an obstruction fo some sort that is preventing normal fuel flow through the whole system? Maybe something as simple as a return valve that was closed while replacing the, cooler, and never re-opened?

Understanding tides, bit of help please

When it says ebb and flood, I think those are the max ebb and flood currents. In this case I think you are correct that the ebb flows towards PT, but always good to confirm. In some locations the flow direction is counter intuitive. And as has been pointed out, although tide levels and...

Taking delivery of my 38E in coming days -- pick your brains!

Re your salon chair, one thing we have learned is the importance of having seating height high enough so you can see the horizon/shoreline through the windows. We have encountered a lot of seating where you can't see the gorgeous view out the windows. The window height is also a factor, so you...

    N/A vs forced induction

I think turbo or no turbo is a giant Red Herring. Turbos are everywhere, including engines with continuous duty ratings that operate 24x7 and run for 10s of thousands of hours between overhauls. Turbos aren't the weak link, nor are they bellwethers of longevity. I think duty cycle rating is...

Thru-hull transducer help. Depth + temperature (no speed)?

Thanks, that's very interesting. My most recent "smart" transducer (DT800) has been working well for 3 years now, so maybe they fixed whatever the problem was. Gotta love those FCV sounders :)

Thru-hull transducer help. Depth + temperature (no speed)?

Just curious, have you lost temp on a transducer that is connected to an MFD or fish finder, or only one a so-called Smart Transducer that is directly connected to N2K? I ask because the N2K Smart Transducer have had years of poor quality and failures. I went through three on my last boat in...

Which Way Should I Wire This Breaker?

    (y) Although the breaker isn't after required between panels and controller, I highly recommend some form of a disconnect. The first time you have to work on the system, you will be thankful that you have it. Also be aware that there ARE configurations where fusing or breakers are required...

Thru-hull transducer help. Depth + temperature (no speed)?

What is the transducer connected to? You Simrad MFD? Assuming so, I'd start there. In the menus for the sounder, there is likely a drop down that lists supported sounders. If not there, you can probably find it in the manuals. Also, a call the Gemeco (the distribution and support arm of...
