    Sail to Trawler!

Did you own a Shannon sailboat? One of my favorites, so their trawlers should also be nice. David

    Series or Parallel Solar Panels

You could wire the panels all in parallel which would limit shading interaction among the panels. But you have to have a controller that can accept the higher current and a wire gauge big enough to limit the voltage drop. David

    Power for ER blowers

Three blowers is quite a lot. Why three? Also the voltage dropping to 11 is a lot. Maybe the wiring is too small or bad connection causing voltage drop. Are you measuring at battery terminals? David

    Towing inflatable Mainship 30

Cruising at 10-11 knots while pulling a heavy dinghy may put the engine in a high stress point. I suspect at 10-11 kts the boat is pushing “the hump” but not over the hump on a clean plane yet. I would either slow down to 8 kts or speed up to more than 12 kts to put the engine in a more...

Solomons Island - Back Creek or Mill Creek ?

Years and years ago, I anchored in Mill Creek to the east. Lots of room and quiet. David

    Another Engine Smoke Question

What rpm can you attain at wot? You may be overpropped. David

Repair westerbeke or replace and with what?

Rotate it, pull the gen head off, send it to Broward Armature for a rebuild. Sounds like your easiest and cheapest option. David

    electrical connector question

With what little info you have provided so far I would say 10 gauge wire with heavy alligator clips on both ends. David

    electrical connector question

I have never jump started a pump (what kind?) and don’t understand why you would need to do it. But use a cable, heavy enough to carry the pump motor starting current, roughly 3 times running current, and big enough to keep the voltage drop below 1 volt at that current. Then put alligator clips...

    Prop Question

Sure, all you have to is have a prop shop rework the new props so they perform like the old. Probably they will reduce the pitch to match the old. But are your current props right? At wot your engines should rev to a point 50-100 rpm’s more than rated wot power. But you must use accurate rpm’s...

    CASH???

I only keep a small fraction of our savings in the bank. The great majority is in brokerage accounts. I will close on a new to us condo in a few weeks. I sold enough stocks to cover the closing cost this morning. When that clears (takes 1-2 days) I will then EFT it to our bank account. A few...

    CASH???

Did the OP (who has never posted again, we probably scared him away) mean cash folding money or no financing involved. I think he meant the latter, but most of the posts above, assumed the former. This thread was kind of fun to read, but mostly irrelevant. David

    CASH???

I have bought and sold a half dozen or so cruising boats over the years, half for cash and never had a problem. Are you concerned about brokers not taking you seriously? Wow half the homes in my area sell for cash. Cash is king. Are you concerned about getting ripped off? First have a good...

    Another dumb vacuflush question

I would leave it on and flush one or twice a week to keep the internals wet and thereby lubricated. David

    Trailer Trawler

I just checked out the Rosborough RHIB. Neat boat. David

    Trailer Trawler

Yes, but trailering will require overwidth permits. And it will take a pretty heavy truck, preferably with duallies to pull it. David

    Lower priced AC Soft Start

Since it sounds like your generator is marginal in starting your A/C I would first try a few no cost, low cost solutions. The two second lug down period may be due to the generator switching from inverter mode to non inverter mode (fixed 3,600 rpm) where it finally starts. If you can set it to...

    Fuse in ground wire.

“Protected”, hmmm. Just like a fuse on the positive wire, any fuse on the negative wire has to be close to the battery to be effective. Any wire before the fuse has no protection. David

    Need opinions

Broward Armateur is a good outfit to repair your generator’s electrical end. Pull it off (should be lots easier than removing the whole thing), send it to them to repair, then put it back on. David

    Alternator questions (F-L 120 GrandBanks 32)

Do you have lithium batteries? If so, they could be putting a high charging load on your alternator and over time, burning them up. David

How to deal with Florida Summer storage question

Many yards will not supply power to boats on the hard. Not possible to power a dehumidifier without power or a big solar panel array and an inverter. David

    What size windlass

Lewmar, Maxwell and Lofrans. Lofrans looks more rugged, but ???. David
  24. DavidM

    What size windlass

Ken above is correct, start with the anchor, then the rode and then look for a windlass that will handle it. There are lots and lots of opinions on anchors and rodes, so I will give you mine. A 42' boat needs a substantial anchor, 50 lbs and one of the newer style Rocnas, Spades, Manson...

    Propeller Shaft Zinc Reality Check

Seems like a bit much. You might look for a marine electrical tech who can do a corrosion analysis. If ok, then consider adding a transom zinc. David
