    Suggestions needed for removal

Looking for suggestions on getting the shaft log/tube removed. This is as far as I can get it being hitting with hammer from the inside. Putting a pipe wrench on from the outside just started to crush the tube with out turning it at all.

    Pressure testing the shaft log?

Any recommendations on how I can pressure test my shaft log? Roughly 2 1/8” I.D. I’ve got the cutless bearing at the aft end removed. Still working on getting the one at the forward end of the log/tube off. Is it also considered a cutless bearing? I don’t see that it has a replaceable bearing in...

    Shaft packing access

What do you have for access to your shaft packing? I have just that little square hole under the stairs. I’m thinking I may need to make a new hole/hatch in front of the stairs to aid in replacing the shaft tube.

    Collapsed motor mount?

I believe I have a misalignment of the running gear due to a collapsed motor mount. At the end of last season I had dock mates commenting that my bilge pump was running more often. I know my water tank had sprung a leak but I’m not convinced that was the only source of water. I think my shaft...

    Refrigerator power consumption question

If looking at the specs of a 12v refer and it claims rated current to be 9 amps how does that convert over to amp hr. usage per day? If it is 9 amps then it would be safe to say that my alternator would have no problem keeping it running while underway? I only have one battery bank of two...

    Puget sound anchorages

Are there long term anchorage areas/problems where people moor their semi decrepit liveaboard boats similar to the problems I regularly read about in Florida? Just curious.

    Southeast Alaska towns/harbors

What is your favorite Southeast Alaska town? Why? Doesn't necessarily have to be one of the larger towns. I lived in Alaska for 25ish years but never got to Southeast, I lived mainly in Seward and Homer on the Kenai Peninsula. I've deckhanded on boats from Buldir Island to offshore of Mount...

Alarm panel build - help wanted

One of my upcoming projects is putting together an alarm panel. I do not have all my pieces yet. I plan on mounting it to the ceiling at the lower helm so the audible alarms can be heard from either helm. Probably the audibles will be under the flybridge. What I really need help with is the...

    Fiberglass coaching welcomed

I need to remove two of these transducers, one on each side. I am assuming the the hull is 1/2 inch thick or more solid fiberglass. I have good access from both sides of the hull. How far do I need to taper my hole back? Do I need to do anything to the repair before bottom painting? I have...

    New England-marinas/harbors

We plan to relocate our boat at some point, possibly for next season. We would probably be looking at NY harbor and north maybe as far up as New Hampshire. I am curious as to what rates are charged in different areas and what amenities you like about your homeport. You don't need share...

Pretty interesting range of offerings. I wonder how accurate their run time projections are. I briefly looked at one at the local boat show. https://ingenityelectric.com/

    Cruise ship to the rescue

It's pretty surprising the number of cruise ships that render aid to distressed mariners. https://www.wkrg.com/alabama-news/cruise-ship-helps-coast-guard-rescue-boaters-off-alabama-coast/ One report I saw said the 3 men were Hondurans.

    Tender towing problem VivieRae II

https://nordhavn.com/update-on-nordhavn-96-vivierae-ii/ VivieRae II (sorry couldn't edit title) Anyone heard any updates on this? I'm guessing that boat could float around for quite a while as long as it doesn't run aground.

    Exhaust hose questions

What is this part that is between the exhaust hose and transom exit? I thought it was a check valve it appears to have some sort of baffles inside on the outer perimeter. Is it common to have this sort of splice in the exhaust hose? It looks like a four inch exhaust hose was used as a sleeve...

    Polyurethane paint vs. Enamel

Looking at "topside paints". Mostly at the marine stores I see the polyurethane paints and primers, but find other brands such as Rustoleum marine coatings are an enamel. Anyone have experience with both? I like to save some money when I can but also only want to do the job once or a least not...

    Lazarette hatch rebuild

Others have asked about their own hatches. I’ve started mine. I plan to recore with resin soaked ply and add a circle hatch to access the rudder shaft for the emergency tiller. It was cored with Hardibacker. Someone must have recored it once before.
