Do I Really Need an FCC License for VHF Use in Canada?

Required, yes. Essential? NO ! ! ! I am two weeks post Richelieu, St Lawrence, Ottawa R, Rideau and down to Kingston, where we are now. Not only was the VHF not useful, none of the locks responded on the channels recommended. There was virtually no communication on any of the channels, save...

    Non-invasive tank monitoring systems

Non-Invasive tank monitors With special thanks to SYJOS, I've signed up for 3 Gobius Pro units. I'm not sure if a central unit is worth extra expense (compared with simple Bluetooth communication) but will try using just 3 units on 2 fuel and 1 blackwater tank.

    Non-invasive tank monitoring systems

Thank you to all! I am grateful for the suggestions, and am pursuing them. They ALL seem much better than reinforcing and permanently attaching sensors to my aluminum tanks. It would be very attractive to know when the fuel is LOW and when the blackwater tank (hard to see) is HIGH! Stay tuned . . .

    Non-invasive tank monitoring systems

I know I saw a thread discussing non-invasive, new tank measuring systems for water, blackwater, and fuel in tanks that are hard to access. I believe several used Bluetooth to synch with smartphones for a rough idea of how full or empty the tank is. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

    My dad's drafting tools

Not that old! I would put these about 50 years old. They aren't ancient, but the designs haven't changed much over the years. I also own a set like this. Note the long pen-like instrument, with a small caliper on its tip. That's for ink, after penciling in the original! I bet this is a I &...

    Newbie - Mainship

My brother and I are poised to buy a Mainship 40, to do the Loop. We are optimistic we'll be successful in negotiations. The boat is currently in Tampa. We'd like to take a couple shakedown cruises in her, then try to head N, likely after the hurricane season. We are also trying to figure the...

    Dinghy Davits on Mainship 40

I have a Mainship 40 trawler, with 2 dinghy rails supported by the swimstep. Unfortunately, this precludes use of the swimstep for anything else. I would like to add a davits system, or other arrangement to clear the swimstep. It could be supported by the radar mast, the two aft supports for...
