    Perkins fuel issue

Also you can anneal the copper washer (soften it) by heating it up and letting it cool. The Function of tightening the banjo bolt work hardens the washer. I have read if you quench it in water (Cool it quickly) it will become even softer. The copper needs to be soft to make a good seal. or...

    Cutless bearing advice

Re-installation Getting the new bearing in is easy. Put the new bearing in a freezer and warm the strut up to 150 degrees F or so. The bearing will slide right in. Install swifty as temperatures equalize quickly. Provide a stop so you don't push the bearing through too far! My first try at...

    Plumbing

I purchased transition fittings from https://seacoastservices.com/pvc-fittings/. Also custom bent all my PVC using a heat gun and garage door springs to maintain the round shape of the pipe. Pre- bent everything in the shop using mock up of boat hull angles.

    Diesel leak on tank

You’re not going to be able to seal that inspection port on the plastic tank by applying a sealant on the outside. It will just make a mess. I assume the port unscrews. Make a tool that fits the recesses of that inspection port and I think you will find it will come right apart.

    12 volt television

Thanks for all the replies! Room on my vessel for systems is minimal at best and my plan for the boat was to keep everything 12 volt. The Victron unit was a good idea and I had to think about that a little but after the cost of the unit and having to find a place to install in and wire it I...

    Herreshoff Pilot 18 performance

I am looking at these Herreshoff Pilots and see different specs given for speed for various engine sizes. I have seen them powered from 13 to 40 HP. I know these are not speed boats, but some claim a 12-knot cruise with 25HP. This would be perfect for me as I operate in a tidal river with...

    Bristol Gull Launch

Tad, you are correct. Stated cruise on the 20 foot boat was 12 knots. The 15 footer would make 5.5 knots at 1000 rpm’s and might make 5.6 knots at 2600 rpm’s!

    Bristol Gull Launch

Thanks Tad, I was looking at a 20 and it appears that someone cut the liner and deck out of it and replaced the deck to make it more like a center console. Doesn't look terrible but takes all of the charm out of the original design for me anyway.

    Bristol Gull Launch

Tad Roberts, where did you get the "cut sheet" on the Gull of Bristol pilot? I was looking at the Gull of Bristol Helmsman 20 and was curious about the specs? I can't find any info on the Helmsman. Thanks, Leon

    12 volt television

I am in the market for 24 to 28 inch, 12 volt television for my Albin 27. Looking for any recommendations or things to look for in a TV for a boat. Because of the location I have to mount it my main concern is that it be as thin as possible. That specification is not always given for...

I just joined a new forum at (https://albin27.com). The site is geared specifically for the Albin 27s. It is just starting up but I hope it takes off.

    Swim platform bonding

I am of the do not bond camp. Galvanic corrosion requires two dissimilar metals to be connected together and submersed in the water. I don't see it being very likely that any other under water metal will be electrically connected to your swim step brackets unless they used stainless bolts to...

    rocker stopper

I have been thinking about using something like the Davis rocker stoppers on my 27 Albin. I get a lot of roll from River traffic when I am on the mooring. The current runs by my boat at about 3 knots depending on the tide. Does anyone have experience using the Davis units in that kind of...

    Engine noise insulation?

Dan, agree with you 100%. Removed the old tired sound insulation from my last two boats. Never operated from the flybridge as you cannot hear enough engine detail. Often run the engine at a particular speed based on the “note” I feel like listening too.

    Onan MDJE stopped making power

Zigzag, the specifications on the regulator is that it wants to see a field resistance of 15 ohms. So if your field resistance of your genny is 10 ohms you will need to add a 5 ohm resistor in series to meet the input spec. This specification probably has something to do with limiting current...

    Albin 27 steering system

My new to me Albin 27 has a teleflex cable steering system 3 turns lock to lock. I don't like it at all. It turns hard on higher power settings and has lots of play. This makes docking and running in following seas very difficult. Thinking of going to hydraulic steering and wondering what...

    Albin 27

Just signed papers on a 1988 Albin 27 Sport Cruiser. It has a Isuzu 6BG1TPX engine. I will be getting her home on her own bottom next weekend. Will have lots of projects when I get her home. New battery set up, new electronics, refinish exterior woodwork and the list goes on.

    Onan MDJE stopped making power

The SX460 wants to see at least 15 ohms on the field This is where you want to add a resistor not the 120 volt sensing terminals. Measure your field resistance with an ohm meter. It will probably be around 8 to 10 ohms. Add the appropriate amount of resistance to get the total over 15 ohms...

A/C unit heats but won’t cool

+1 Sounds more like the control not asking the reversing valve to function. If the reversing valve was sticking I would think the cooling light would come on with the call for cooling. I know on my 1984 era Marine Air unit the thermostat often goes out of calibration and needs adjustment. I...

    Muir windlass disassembly problem

Just looking at the parts breakdown. Is it possible to put a 3 jaw wheel puller on it? Jaws on top of the motor assembly and center screw on the shaft where the bolt you took off. There are other pullers that may work also or you could fabricate a custom one. Many times I have made up...

    Muir windlass disassembly problem

I am not a believer in penetrating oil so much but I must say I have had good results with PB Blaster on frozen aluminum parts. This was spraying the parts several times a day over a full week. Other penetrating oils I have tried did not work. Repetitive tapping is your friend also. Sharp taps...

Isle of shoals and nearby anchorage

Kittery Point Yacht club has 3 moorings at the Shoals. Their website says visitors are welcome to use them. 1st come first serve basis. I usually plan a night at the Shoals during the week and have always been able to grab a mooring. Portsmouth Yacht used to have the same policy but I...
